      Also can we talk about what an awesome legacy stewart has created? I mean given his commitment to including diverse voices, we now have wilmore and noah in time slots dominated by white guys usually. I mean, yes, we need more women in these roles too, but for now, this is a change i can get behind.

    While I am sad that it's not going to be Sam Bee/Jessica Williams/Kristen Schall, this is just as good. Dude is charming and funny. The less that we have these things headed by almost exclusively straight white men, the less pressure there'll be on each new position that comes up, and the more normal it will be to have all different kinds of very talented people hosting shows.

      I would've loved Kristen Schaal as a host, but I've been surprised by just how polarizing she is, with most people coming down on the side of "HAAAAAAAATE her." Aww.

    Can anyone state with any authority just how well-known Jon Stewart was amongst the general public when he took over TDS in 1999, and was he so clearly political? It definitely feels like nowadays every successful host comes prepared with his* own commercial momentum, but I need something to compare Trevor Noah to objectively, sans my own love for him that developed once I started college in the late-ish noughties.

      Here are a few articles about Stewart's ascension to the Daily Show throne. While he was certainly more widely well-known than Noah is now, Stewart was seen more as someone who had been on the precipice of fame for a matter of years.

    I like him, I really do. But I am not sure he can do it. I have been very disappointed in the Larry Whitmore show. I don't know what I will do if both shows end up as flops. They will no longer have Jason Jones and Samantha Bee. In this case change isn't always good.

    I saw him do standup a couple of months ago, it was hilarious. This guy is incredibly funny and charming and will be a great host. Go watch his special on Netflix, it's wonderful. I will continue to Kermit flail now.

      He so charming like he starts talking and WHOOSH there go my pants. AND HE IS SO SMART.

      He is my ideal future husband.

      The only bad thing about this is I don't think he'll be able to do any more stand up which means our eyes will never meet across a crowded bar in Glasgow :(

      I saw him live last week in Dubai and this was my reaction too. He is very very smart, politically and culturally aware and knows a lot about world issues etc. I wonder if this also means the Daily Show will become more internationally focused as well (do hope so!)

      Actually found out who won through Colbert. The ever so subtle fist pump and then realization he needs to stay in character so he starts biting his fist like he's unhappy and about to cry. These satire shows literally shaped the political views of a generation of people. I'm glad they're continuing them.
