It's simple. The First bullet point says it all; he's a Muslim. The far Right would go absolutely ballistic at the thought.

Never mind the fact that he passed all security checks and has been instrumental in killing bad guys including Bin Laden, or that there's tens of thousands of American Muslims in the armed forces, you'd still see all the Michelle Bachmanns and Louie Gohmerts of Congress attacking him and saying he's too dangerous to be even in the building. Remember how Huma Abedin (Hillary Clinton's assistant) was accused by these nutcases of being a secret Muslim spy? Louie Gohmert claimed that Obama deliberately ensured that the government is infiltrated by "Muslim Brotherhood" agents. John McCain had to go out and publicly defend her, and then was called a traitor by these rightwingers.

    Simple bigotry.

I think I saw recently that the Right is turning on Grover Norquist too, as a potential sleeper agent?

ETA: Apparently it is the NRA. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2015/0…

Chief Counter-Terrorist is a freaking Islam Convert?

    Uh, yeah. Gone. Thank God.

But, let's not forget, this makes too much sense to not Inspire a lot of hand-wringing from the progressive terrorist apologistas.

So? There's hundreds of thousands of American Muslim converts. I'm one. What's your point?

The fact that he believes God spoke to Muhammad after Jesus and is not in a trinity doesn't disqualify him. He's clearly a patriotic American who wants to kill these extremists just like just about every other Muslim. In fact, I'm going to assume he's even more aggressive in stopping them because they're also perverting his religion.

    Just curious...

....what is gained by us knowing his name, in this case?

(IOW, Does having this name actually mean anything to anyone, with no context?)

In a truly free society, the standard is "Why shouldn't we know?" rather than "Why should we know?"

exactly. I'm all for it when it serves a purpose. this doesn't

It's exactly why Bradley Manning just a little shit stirrer and Snowden was a hero. One saw something wrong and stuck his neck out on the line and the other just caused trouble for no discernable reason

Nothing has made me convinced than ever of the need to abolish the CIA than this article in the current issue of Harper's, "Life After Guantanamo."

If Operation Condor in the 80's (or the countless other operations that no one knows about) wasn't enough I doubt the article will convince anyone.

Pretty much every piece of Top Secret/SCI information I ever learned was either readily available on Google or specific measurement data that meant nothing without its context. There was also stuff in my unclassified SRB that I was nonetheless told I couldn't put in a resume or say in an interview. When I tried to contact someone about the required pre-publication review for material I wrote after discharge, everyone I tried to contact told me not to call back and hung up.

TL;DR: The bulk of America's intel apparatus is a bureaucratic cluster-fuck that liberally fudges classification details and has no consistency beyond the whim of whichever drone encountered the material first.

Counterterrorism has some real lulus in it. I'd love to talk to the HR people who are hiring them.

"If it is the case, as Miller wrote, that D'Andrea was one of the people who would first face blame in the event of a terrorist attack on U.S. soil, it is difficult to imagine the justification for declining to name him. How would we know whom to blame?"

Because he remains undercover, The Washington Post has agreed to withhold his full name. He has been publicly identified in the past by both his actual first name, Mike, as well as that of his CIA-created identity, Roger.

Pictured left, his CIA-created identity, "Roger."
