Other new events this year will include the 100 yard diarrhea dash, shitput, and grecco roman "mud" wrestling.

I believe that only L.A has made a profit hosting the olympics - that was back in 1984, and the committee did a great job of utilizing preexisting infrastructure. Everywhere else winds up losing a lot of money...

What unnatural disaster does the IOC have planned for Tokyo?

Well, Akira predicted 30 years ago that Japan would hold the Olympics in Tokyo in 2020.

So there's probably going to be giant mutant creatures, satellite beam weapons, and a singularity event.

If that's the case I think we can safely assume Japan wins this contest.

I'm glad that Chicago doesn't have to deal with the bullshit that is the Olympics but I still can't believe we lost to this.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

At least when visitors leave, Brazil will be left with buildings that are useful to the local economy like in Sochi.

I remember reading that China deployed a literal thousand ships to clean up the area while Brazil is employing mere dozens.

Lars Grael, 50, a Brazilian sailing legend who won two Olympic medals, said he had encountered human corpses on four occasions while sailing in the bay.

Fun. I will consider the Brazil Olympics a smashing success if no one dies from an infection or a newly discovered disease.

But I bet they don't have a problem with "flushable" wipes!

      ETA:

A helicopter ride Monday organized by biologist and environmental activist Mario Moscatelli illustrated the extent of the problem, revealing household trash floating throughout the entire bay, including within lanes for the Olympic sailing competition.

      Nevermind.

Having lived in Brazil for much of my life, I can confirm that most Brazilian toilets can't even handle toilet paper. They had bins next the toilet where you are supposed to throw away your shit-smeared toilet paper.
