Sooo many things I love about this story (spoiler: none of them is that some poor dude got bullied):

    1. The contestant and Kills' husband just look like average white dudes. The overreaction is ridiculous.

    2. The husband's Norman Bates comments. The fact that he thinks these are insults, like queer/cross dressing/Alfred Hitchcock themed murder rampages on X Factor wouldn't be awesome and an asset to the show.

    3. That this X Factor actually had a convicted killer as a contestant, making the Norman Bates comments even more unfortunate for X Factor's "integrity".

    4. That Natalia Kills has a husband. She has a song about killing her fiancé and running off to marry another dude, so I don't know if this guy is the dude she's going to kill or the one she killed for.

    5. That in defence of her remarks Kills tweeted a pic of Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis in Natural Born Killers, comparing herself and her husband to them. Potentially shedding light on point 4? Amazing either way.

    Love you baby ❤️ @itswillymoon

    6. Idk about New Zealand X Factor, but this shit just brings UK X Factor to its logical conclusion. X Factor, especially in its earlier stages, relies on a freak show of vulnerable people who think they can sing, often with mental health problems and from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds. I have no idea why anyone is comfortable with a panel of millionaires laughing at vulnerable people.

    7. All Saints' Melanie Blatt's succinct tweet that Kills is just a "twat." All Saints!

    8. New Zealand media dude Duncan Greive sez: "From a pure entertainment perspective we lost something beautiful in Natalia Kills and Willy Moon. They were deeply strange and often unpleasant, but never less than dynamite television. I feel like that's extremely unlikely to be true of whoever they rope in to replace them." (Quoted from the Guardian.)

    9. Natalia Kills is still a thing, if not for the wrong reasons. I am happy about separating artist from work (until things get to Terry Richardson levels anyway.) They are quite good pop songs about wanting to spend money, having sex and being a disenfranchised 17 yr old from a broken home respectively.

If the contestant had come on stage rocking a red mesh shirt that matched Woody Harrelson's in that pic that somehow was ALSO that Willy guy's signature look, that would have been much cooler.

      re: 6)

I've said the exact same thing to people before. X factor is the modern equivalent of going down to the local asylum and laughing at the mad people.

Says the woman wearing a goddamn feather boa...

You're only allowed to wear a feather boa if A) you're a drag queen, B) it's Halloween, or C) you're Zsa Zsa Gabor.

      D) You are a mad-biologist and it is literally a feathered boa (constrictor) who has become your pet and you want to show off "strangle-chirps" to the world. (That or you discovered the earthly manifestation of Quetzalcoatl )

This does in no way excuse her totally gross self centrered little rant, but did this guy really cover a judges song whilst dressed in the (admittedly common) style of the judge? Because that is tacky. Worthy of that level of abuse? No. Tacky? Yes.

Seriously. I'm almost socially feral, and I know that the appropriate comment for him to make if he wanted to acknowledge a similarly dressed contestant on the show is a compliment to appear non-threatened, even if he is. His job is to seem like a friendly TV personality so he can sell records of his own.

It is fairly hilarious that two people who choose such derivative, obvious, bog standard, done for DECADES (if not thousands of years in her case) looks choose to chew someone out for what they perceive as treading onto their precious style terrain. Nearly anyone on the planet is going to look at her and think: Cleopatra, Louise Brooks, Bettie Page, Elizabeth Taylor, Katy Perry, etc, etc. It's shocking that her husband manages to dress in an even more expected way than she does.

I really need to stop reading articles about people whose music I enjoy, because even though I really like some of Natalia Kills music I will know not be able to listen to it without remembering that she's the worst/

I would really try to compartmentalise, it could be so much worse. You could be a Roman Polanski or a Woody Allen fan. So many artists, authors, directors, actors are real dicks. Though I do know what you mean, Thurston Moore speaking his mind on the internet has ruined my enjoyment of any Sonic Youth song with his vocals on it.

I can compartmentalize when it's simply being an asshole. I know a lot of people were disappointed to find out that Pat Sajak is a tea party jerk, but when I watch Wheel I pretend that Pat the host is a character, like how Stephen Colbert on TCR was a character, and since Pat the host is likeable, I still like him.
