The thing about the Internet is that it connects everybody, and then you can see how awful they really are.

As someone who remembers the world before the major proliferation of the internet, I kind of do wish I could go back to a time where I didn't realize how fucking horrible people are.

I'm not even kidding. Just terrible.

With the current racial tension in this country, I feel it's necessary [sic] exactly where I stand.

And proudly displaying this flag for all to see will be sure to ease that tension, Michael!

Apparently the flag is the only way to show where they stand, because they have a tenuous grasp of written language.

open rant. I honestly cannot figure out who is being intentionally or unintentionally ironic. The guy who was embarrassed about the "joke" flag really gets the point across about why some jokes just aren't worth it. I am at the point where terms like "redneck" and "white trash" make me uncomfortable because they still perpetuate racism and mock poverty — "haha! What's wrong with you? Stupid poor white person, you shouldn't be poor. Being poor is for black people." Gawd, our whole socio-economic-legal-political culture is the WORST! Close rant.

"The south's gonna do it again...."

Is he referring to that time that they wanted to secede and we went down and burned all their cities? Or does he mean that they're going to continue to top our nation's levels of obesity and heart disease while lowering the collective IQ of the United States?

Yup, here you go. Pretty unoriginal and uninspired. Jesus deserves better than a flag you can make in MS Paint.

There is, actually, though not a universal one — just a very plain banner with a cross on it that someone came up with around the turn of the 20th century. A lot of Protestant churches have one in the sanctuary. During WWII, a lot of U.S. Lutheran churches conspicuously displayed it to show that their German religious heritage was at odds with German politics. It's... a very boring flag.

Let's just get this out there before the "Heritage not hate" crowd shows up:

It's a heritage of hate. There was nothing else to the Confederacy at all. Racism, greed, hate.

Funny. I'm from the south, and have never lived anywhere else, but I get the idea that the only people who are hell bent on displaying this flag, which hasn't been used since the days when the enslavement of a an entire race of American citizens was not only accepted, but expected, are also the same folks who take pride in their personality quirks that make them look more ignorant. Most everybody else has pretty much moved on, because it was a fucking horrific chapter in our nation's history, and harkens back to a time that hasn't been anywhere near viable in well over a century. But whatever, crackers. You do you, and take pride in being a temper tantrum throwing brat whose opinions are almost instantly minimized once anybody with a working brain sees you proudly flyin' the Stars and Bars.

just a brief reference on the word 'crackers'. It is referring to the whip cracking sound that cattle drivers created as they brought the herds up the Atlantic Ocean coast from roughly where Daytona Beach is now to America's first city, St Augustine. The residents of St. Augustine could hear the cracking before they could see the teams of livestock that were being driven towards the city. Many Floridians who are descended from these crackers are very upset about what's become of that term.

That's actually very interesting; I always heard that it was the sound the whips used by the slavedrivers made. Thanks for the info!
