Abandoning a vehicle / leaving the scene of an accident is a much cheaper fine than a DWI...

Exactly this. He can say he was injured and disorientated and left the car.

Plus, it would void the insurance for the rental so you could add in a $200,000 bill on top of the DWI. My guess is that he leaped over the cement barrier and ran the entire way home.

It is actually crazy not to immediately leave the scene of an accident if you're drunk. I totaled my dads car, in an incident I am in no way proud of, drunk about eight years ago. Left the scene, got a ride to my house, and when the police arrived 20 min later I told them I was so upset about the accident that I had chugged a bunch of Icehouse. They knew I was full of shit, but couldn't prove it, and all I was charged with was leaving the scene. So now, I'm much more employable thanks to leaving the scene!

ETA: I haven't driven drunk since.

yup. Same thing happened to a friend, rolled his car, pulled his friend out of the wreckage, tossed all the beer cans and pot into a backpack and dumped it in a dumpster while carrying his friend back to his place.

Guy is a fucking idiot, but DUI's are not cheap.

Maybe he suddenly realized it was yellow. Yellow sports cars are so stupid. You pay all that money for something flashy and you ruin it by making it look like a school bus.

I live two blocks from an NBA arena and five blocks from NFL stadium and I cannot tell you how many times this has come up in conversation. The streets are full of Maseratis, Lambos, Ferraris, Porsches...and lemon yellow seems to be edging up on cherry red as the stupid color of the moment. "Skittles" is right: shiny, candy colors on a ride that's so sweet...until the NFL career ends in three to five because a man's knees don't work anymore, and he realizes that the million he spent on three world-class rides sure would look prettier in some kind of yielding investment. These are toys for guys who are really rich, but the dealers prey on all the instant cash boys.

I must admit, though—it's pretty cool seeing all the Bentleys and Rolls running up and down the road. There's a powder-blue Flying Spur in my building that just oozes posh. It's a mechanical work of art.

Somewhere in London, Q is crying about the Double O section doesn't take care of any vehicles he gives them like the time 007 parked his Lotus in the hills of Spain and let some thugs blow it up.

Higgins is most annoyed with this situation. (I'm sure Robin Masters had a Lambo too)

Judging by at least a few responses here it looks as though some changes in legislation are needed whereby leaving the scene automatically includes a DWI upgrade. Or at the very least the penalties should equal DWI. Unless of course someone can propose a valid reason to leave the scene of an accident.

I am not an attorney but someone suggested you could wander away from an accident disoriented and without being under the influence which seems plausible.

Lol, what are you even talking about. That makes as much sense as:
