This is obviously horrible. At this point I think that's just a given. But a lot of the commenters here, really aren't any different. You all are labeling and entire group of people (Greek life) based on stereotypes. And yes, I could find plenty of real life examples of every stereotype for every group of people that's ever been stereotyped. If you don't like Greek life, no one is forcing you to join. Don't join, it's that easy. But get off your high horse about it. But this is all that ever makes the news. Oh, this and fake rape stories. And it makes the news a handful of times a year. What never makes the news is the all the other days of the year, when fraternity and sorority members are just acting like perfectly normal, pleasant college kids, or even raising money for charity, mentoring and tutoring kids, etc. I'll say it again, you don't like Greek life, just don't join. But everyone yelling "ban fraternities etc," can just go screw off.

Comparing anti-Greek sentiment with racism is... not advisable.

Yeah, that damn stereotype that fraternities were literally created as a way to delineate the class of their members and sustain networks of social exclusion and have successfully pursued that goal throughout their entire existence.

      Fuck you.

I don't know. . . perhaps "niggers" don't want to be a part of your frat? It's probably a win-win for everyone involved.

That's what I'm thinking. It's always bizarre how these racist spew there bullshit, but they don't know black people. They don't ever have any of us around and yet still find it nessescary to bring us up unprovoked with these racist songs. I could give the most flyingest, wettest, stankest fuck about their frat and any of their homoerotic "party's". Fuck these clowns.

Okay, he'd just dismiss my reply like a child, so I'll put it here.

He groups the entirety of white people as one group with one mentality, then claims that one race is superior to the other. After that, he makes an assumption based on race that, since you're white, you've never experienced racism. And dismisses any reply which responds with logic.

Once when I was in college a Sigma Alpha Epsilon brother very earnestly explained to me that there was nothing wrong with women having sex with other women as long as they were doing it for men to watch, but actual lesbians and bisexuals were disgusting, disgraceful, and "against god." He was deadly serious.

I realize it's entirely unfair to judge an organization based on one encounter with one particularly idiotic member, and yet my reaction to this story was complete lack of surprise.

Moron, probably thought that if two men were having sex for women to watch then ALL OF THEM ARE SINNERS. Because no homo dude.

This is horrendous, but obviously quite social. Drinks are being served. It has the air of a young KKK meeting with traditional formal attire. The girl looks so unbothered by it. Were there any adults on the bus? When racists seem to have shocked everything out of me, they create something new. As long as young people adopt this mentality, or sit idly by, change will not come. Regardless of Obama's "Selma" speech, or movies based upon it. I'm a little disappointed that the future didn't contain "Jetson" jet cars", or "Rosie" robot maids, but I'm more disappointed with the fact that racism still exits, and seems to be getting stronger. Thanks Gabrielle for posting this. How much more forward and blatant can the message be? I'm worried for tomorrow and those after that.

Greek life is... ugh... so gross. Buying friends in general is gross, but buying friends with the intention of being university-approved douchebags is even worse. Merit-based organizations get a pass from me, but when the admission requirements are "drink hard, party hard, pay hard" I've struggled my whole adult life to see the allure.

The only fraternity I ever had much truck with was Beta Theta Pi at MIT, 30-something years ago now. They were very sweet guys, and I could totally see the appeal of being a member of that frat. But they were more like a boarding house filled with friends than they were a frat; they just hung out together, had fun but not insane parties, and that was about it, as far as I could see. Nobody seemed to give that much of a shit about being Greeks per se, they just enjoyed living in a cool old house on Bay State Road and having a good time when they weren't studying.

I'm surprised I haven't read any comments complaining about how the media only reports the bad shit that happens in Greek organizations. The fact that these people think that they deserve a medal for being philanthropic only adds to the list of reasons why fraternities/sororities have a well deserved bad reputation. If you're one of the "good people" that belong or have belonged to a Greek organization, awesome! But it doesn't take away the fact that the default culture of these organizations are saturated with bigotry and privilege and stupidity. If you don't fall under any of these categories, you're the exception. You're not a "typical frat guy/sorority chick".

Protip: If what you have to say would be racist if the subject were black people, then you probably shouldn't say it.

Also, you've obviously never been in a frat or a sorority, so maybe lay off until you know what you're talking about?

Those types of behaviors are not consistent with our values whatsoever. (Cont)

Everyone on that bus was singing and clapping, and no one objected.

You are what your chapters do, assholes. All you are is your chapters. If you aren't what your chapters do, why are they your chapters? Or are you just a massive money-grubbing fraud of an social organization that has no real effect on the lives on young men — which is your stated purpose?

But no, "not being a racist ass" is probably simply not something pushed by you guys. It wasn't important to you, it's not important to them. So, sorry you got caught being who you all are?

It's sort of like the WalMart effect. Their official policies about discrimination and wage payment are admirable. Too bad, that message doesn't really reach the stores.

Intentionally don't make it down to local levels.

They (Walmart and SAE, in this case) have PR teams that operate sociopathically with the outside world to say what sounds good. Their internal policies and priorities have nothing to do with that PR shield-forging. The internal policies and priorities have to do with profit margin and donor relations, respectively. And that difference is not admirable, it's deceptive. And when that deception is shredded by a YouTube video, well, good.
