    An inventory search has the sole purpoese of checking the vehicle for valuables. It is not to be used to locate contraband. I'm not sure what "valuables" the officers thought they'd find in a sour cream container, but unless the smelled the aroma of marijuana emanating from the container, there was no reason to inventory it as it had no value.

      According to NORML, first-offense possession of an ounce or less carries no jail time and could result in a fine up to $300. Several states have decriminalized.
