Yeah, I've always found the whole "What I did was insanely unethical, but it wasn't technically illegal, so there!" counter-argument to be extremely effective. I hope Clinton goes for that in a big public way!!

Clinton's email address was hdr22@clintonemail.com; the handle seems to refer to her maiden initials (she was born as Hillary Diane Rodham).

Please speculate wildly as to the significance of the "22."

I find it very difficult to believe that the Secretary of State is allowed to conduct official business via private correspondence that is therefore not subject to public record.

However, if that is the case, it is still a very bad thing, it shows that people in power won't be held accountable, and they have made it that way by design.

Let's see. Historically these front runners are never the ones in the final round. Remember the great Hillary vs Rudy campaign in 08?

I've been saying this for years, but President H.R. Clinton would be worse than President G.W. Bush. She is a moderate Republican masquerading as a liberal Democrat. She is in the back pocket of Wall Street. She despises transparency in government. She is a shameless opportunist and professional politician. She is a hawk who will side with Netanyahu, but waffle on actual military action when needed.

I am as progressive as they come which is I why I refuse to vote for Clinton. Please run, Sen. Warren. Please.

Clinton may have her faults- a lot of them- but to say she'd be worse than W is so hyperbolic that it just makes any other sort of criticism of her come off as silly.

" But he was sending Clinton emails about, among other things, Benghazi—one of the largest fuck-ups in State Department history"

I do believe 9/11 is actually the largest fuck up in State Department history.... Not saying that the State Dept didn't screw up in Benghazi here, but I mean its not like they ignored growing signs of a impending attack on two of the US's most important cities.

Tomasky ran this down today. It seems the email rules were not in effect until after she left.

Yeah, because using a private email server for official government business as a means of evading public oversight is certainly not a scandal in and of itself or anything.

Talking about how it might be "illegal" is stupid, too. Torture is illegal, and it's not like Dubya went to jail or anything. The law, like ethics, is only something that applies to the little people.

"it also applies to correspondence about official business ..... Had Blumenthal been sending Clinton emails about personal business, such as an upcoming ski trip, there would be no issue here. But he was sending Clinton emails about, among other things, Benghazi"

Ok, I'm being nitpicky, and I'm not taking any sides, but it depends on how you define official business. Yes, she was the Secretary of State and such matters can be construed as official, but say Blumenthal emailed me those exact same emails because I just happen to be a political junkie (I'm not; eww) — then those correspondences would be "personal" business. If her hobby and her profession just happens to be the same, where do you draw the line between it being personal business vs. official business (and yes, there has to be a line)...
