I really don't understand the GOP's logic here. I thought they viewed the Department of Homeland Security as essential to combat terrorism. Why, of the all agencies they could play Shutdown Chicken with, would they pick this one?

Because Obama's immigration executive action last year did nothing to address the continuing immigration across our borders. Not advocating the reason but that's one of the rationales.

I have not been following this as closely as I should have, but I believe it is because they think illegal immigrants from South and Central America pose just as great a threat to our nation as extremists with bombs.

Ah yes, we've now entered the bizarro #uniteblue world were liberals are supposed to be outraged over the closing of a draconian Bush-era excess.

Homeland Security is an Orwellian name for an department that does some Orwellian shit, but it's also absorbed some agencies that do practical government services, like the Coast Guard.

Right, but those agencies will never stop operating just as they did for decades before Bush decided to create the militarized shitshow that is DHS.

But the Republicans want something, ergo, we must all oppose to it. By definition.

As opposed to the 113th congress? This whole thing has been a farce when the Republicans made their platform anything-but-Obama.

I guess the TeaPartyTerrorists don't love and want to protect America as much as Obama and the Democrats. It's a shame that their hate for Obama and everything he stands for is greater than their love of America.
