I hate how everyone is all, her eyes look sad or whatever. She's just bad at candids. For example, I can take a bad ass selfie, but as soon as someone else turns the camera on me, my brain goes OPEN YOUR MOUTH REALLY WIDE, IT WILL LOOK GREAT.

I think that she looks incredibly joyous in the vast majority of the photos, but the last 6 do seem much sadder.

But I totally know what you mean about struggling to look happy in photos. At first glance, I think I have a great smile, but the longer I look, the more I'm like, "That does not reach my eyes. It's like the top and bottom halves of my face don't match up. What a weird smile. Everyone else looks happy. WHY CAN'T I PULL OFF JOY?"

If I look too long at some pictures all my features get out of context and I am like, what the fuck do I even look like?

This is the most perfect distillation of late-90's/early-00's makeup I could possibly have imagined, and I love it so much. The dark lipliner under nude lipstick all slathered with super-shiny gloss. The shimmery, opaque jewel tone swath of eyeshadow. Copious blush. Glorious. In fact, it shouts "early 2000s" so inescapably, in my brain, that I actually am half-convinced that it's Mandy Moore when I look at it, despite the intellectual knowledge that it's Britney.

The white highlighter at the inner corner of her eyes really does it.

I do miss the days when "highlight your inner corner" meant "COMPLETELY WHITE IT OUT"

Same. I want to have a sleepover with her and braid her hair and read Tiger Beat or some shit. I'm not joking.

I get the sense she hasn't had many real friends. Having a sleepover with Britney might be like getting an abandoned kitty to trust you. "You can come out from under the couch, Britney. It's okay. Nobody's gonna make you dance. We'll watch movies and eat junk food and paint each other's nails, okay?"

I agree. Of all the photos in this list, this is my favorite because she looks genuinely happy here. It's the smize.

That is the photo I picked out as the only one with a genuine expression. You would think, however, that someone who has been thrown to the media wolves since childhood would have learned to fake a smile convincingly at some point. Seriously, I can fake a smile much better than she can, and I have absolutely no need to be able to do it.

With all poor Britney's been through, she looks 1000 times better today than Lindsay Lohan does, or ever will again.

I forgot she went brunette. She looked damn good. Such a good colour with her skin tone.

Likely its her natural hair colour. Odd how that generally ends up being the most flattering on most people, despite what hair colourists might want you to think. I will admit highlights can help flatter, but generally I find that dramatic hair colour changes never look as good as the original colour.
