My god. I don't normally advocate for the western world to play Team America: World Police, but...this just makes me mentally scream SOMEONE, ANYONE, DO SOMETHING.

    :/

ISIS and North Korea I believe are two groups we will look back on in history and mourn that we let millions of people suffer while we watched and did nothing.

But when we interfere we actually make things worse, if we want to do something we need not play World Police but work along side the countries who have to deal with ISIS.

We are in the 21st Century fighting the 15th... This is probably the one situation where a ground invasion would be preferable, but lets face it, no one cares enough for that to happen. So we'll just read this horrifying stories time and time again while publicly proclaiming "Never Again".

A ground invasion is the answer. Jordanian, Iraqi and Saudi armed forces need to form a coalition army, and solve their problem. The US should support that mission.

      Only support.

I am going to oversimplify things here, but I don't care. ISIS, Al Qaeda, Boko Haram, and other fundamentalists groups of any religion only exist and perpetuate because of their fear, disgust, and hatred of women. This is not about religion or God's will or some divine caliphate. This is about a group of psychopaths who put out a pamphlet saying it was ok to rape pre-pubescent girls, or, if they are unable to be penetrated vaginally, they should be enjoyed other ways. Fundamentalists of this ilk are obsessed by sex, revolted by it and titilated by it at the same time. They view half the population as rape dolls, as property, as inhuman. Until this changes and the greater culture accepts women and girls as equal, respected, valued members of society, this sick shit will go on and on and on.

The Nazis were very popular within Germany when they were in power. They were psychopathic. So yea, psychotic people can have huge following

The only difference between the Nazis and ISIS is the amount of power they wield. The Nazis controlled one of the most powerful, industrialized nation. These people relative to the other nations in the world don't have such military and economic power. If they did, they would be a second coming of the Nazis.

At what point is ISIS a cult?

I realize that's not mutually exclusive to "religion", but the extremism and severity is beyond what I can even wrap my head around. What would compel someone to look around and say, "Yeah, let's go with those Islamic State guys. They seem the best option for my life and family."

I think it's a matter of ISIS being so powerful in the region that you don't have much choice.

Extreme poverty, hunger and violence from the government that actively works against you at every turn. When you have no other alternatives is when people feel that extremist groups are a viable option.

When I read these things, I can't believe all this stuff takes place on one planet..it's a completely different reality, but one that's just a few hours away and that can apparently be reached by airplane. I can barely get my head around it.

Some people in the "enlightened" West (mostly, I suspect, men) believe that a child from rape is a "blessing", and that women should have no access to contraception or abortion.

The report this article is based on has served its purpose: people are howling for ISIS blood, and they are distracted from grossly misogynist attitudes and crimes at home.

Huh? Who said anything about that? You are rife with assumption.

Did I say anything about how exemplary my own society is? No.

Did I comment in any way on Islam, or the East? I did not.

I am merely noting that values and perceptions differ widely, depending on what patch of earth one happens to be standing on.

I do however agree with your assessment of the propagandist aspect of this story, in terms of stirring up emotion.

unspeakably horrifying, but American ground forces aren't the answer. The nations Isis operates in must be responsible for defeating them. America has its own human rights abuses to fix, suppose we use some of our tme, energy and resources doing that instead of trying to police the world.

I know this is petty and totally besides the point, but it makes me really angry that this Fulaani Sheikh bitch is using twitter. These subhumans are in a war with civilization itself; they shouldn't get to use Team Civilization's tools. Why should we let them? Hand over any technology from the last 4 centuries if you don't want to play by the rules that come along with them. For whatever reason the hypocrisy makes the savagery more intolerable.

In some of these case the government asks them not to shut down these accounts because they think that the intelligence they gain from them is worthwhile.

That I understand, and it's an important tool for fighting them.

What I don't understand is how this heinous bitch and other ISIS supporters simultaneously want to destroy civilization and take advantage of its bells and whistles. Like, in their minds, if the Caliphate is successful, do they think they are going to have technological infrastructure? Do they think they are going to do business with the rest of the world?

unpopular opinion: ISIS is gas lighting the US by attacking perceived tenants of western culture personified in the people they chose to execute (Christianity, "freedom of speech," etc) so we try to intervene and ultimately spend millions on war funding and political interests, not once seeing any sort of profit or safety for the American people. How is every other country affected responding? Why are Americans assuming it is our duty to police not only on our soil but the entire world?

Calling for the prioritization of domestic policy and social issues over ISIS is not unpatriotic, by the way.

I think ISIS is far more interested in taking and holding territory than having countless members killed by American troops and replaced by some other group.

So if they did not want to draw international attention to their festering power, let alone western military intervention, why would they post viral videos of execution? Kind of counterproductive

I think wanting that is completely human. Putting yourself above wanting that is to reach a level,of spirituality that is above normal humanity.

That said, I would rejoice if all of the people on this planet who purposely enable, enact, or endorse such acts of violence against any human, or even an animal, were to drop dead tomorrow. They can't be magically rehabilitated in this lifetime (and really, that would probably be the most poetic torture). I don't feel the need for them to be killed violently. I just want them gone.

        *shrugs* I'm just regular human.
