I am imagining the Secret Service nightmare that would be Malia going to NYU.

Which is a segue into my crossing all fingers and toes that she also looked at Barnard. I'd be surprised if she went to Columbia, given the fact that Obama has not been shy about the fact that he wasn't into the place back in the day.

Didn't one of the Bush girls go to NYU?

Evidently she did. My neighbor's daughter goes there and called her mom all excite.

Malia approaching college-aged makes me feel this old. Especially when I see stuff like this from the 2008 campaign:

It's crazy to think about how she's basically been in the White House her entire adolescence. What a trip.

Even if she wasn't a great student with the grades, no college in the world would not accept her. (Think of the fundraising opportunities for any school to advertise that Malia Obama goes there.) So she should apply to schools where she won't get hassled. I was gonna say Oxford or Cambridge but half the country would lose its mind. But apply there, anyway.

I think she'll be fine where ever she chooses to attend. Campuses like the ones she is looking at get famously protective of their "famous" students, particularly when they are decent people. Franco got sold out, Emma Watson/Natalie Portman did not. Pluse, she grew up in this bubble, she knows what she is getting into. Backpack was fine as will she be.

I literally just realized that Malia and my daughter could possibly be in college together and Sasha and my son could be in college together....

So obviously my daughter and Malia will be BFFs and my son will marry Sasha.

Oh, then we will be related, because my nephew is a senior in high school and I'm begging him to come down here to Columbia, a school he has not applied to. He's a year ahead of Malia, but he will date her and marry her. Hey, he's not my kid, so I can over-direct his life, but on the upside we will both have Obamas as in-laws!

This is great and exciting for Malia and everything, but mostly this story is making me confront my own mortality and the fleeting nature of existence, because SHE WAS A CHILD FIVE SECONDS AGO.
