Woman, who was probably raped and then accused of adultery, survives stoning attempt.

Also only slightly surprised that they've executed more women than men. Like if given the choice of who to kill for funsies, I'm sure they'd want to slake their misogynistic rage.

I think the article talks about executions after a "trial". Because 15 people? How is that possible when ISIS has been slaughtering people in Iraq and Syria for over a year.

Holding out for her to return in a yellow abaya, Onitsuka Tigers, and a katana in hand and deliver some righteous fucking justice.

So, I'm and Engkish teacher and when I read things like this, I think of To Kill a Mockingbird. Atticus's goal as a father and a man is to help his children and his community understand empathy, understand what it take to see a situation from a different perspective.

Fundamentalism, no matter what religion it is based on, removes empathy from daily life. No longer is there nuance or sympathy or love or grief. This breaks my heart and, as I listen to the right wing of America, terrifies me.

I am a terrible person who judges, but I try, I really do to do what Atticus tells Scout: I do try to walk in other people's skin. What's their life? What happened to them? What did they do? How do they feel? It's so very hard...and if we want to combat attitudes that make it okay to STONE someone because some ancient fucking texts says that's okay...we must try.

To Kill a Mockingbird is still so so relevant in so many ways that I bet poor Harper Lee would have thought would be long over by now.

I hope no one reports on it if they do know. I hope she's safe.

        I hope she runs fast.

Don't get me wrong, I do not support capital punishment, but I believe that adultery is the most sinful thing one could do.

They're definitely doing this because of Western interference and lingering resentment over colonialism and not because their crazy ass religious texts substantiate this sort of behavior.

I'm certainly no expert in the politics of the region, but my understanding is that it's more that Western interference has contributed to the decline of more secular governments and the rise of more theocracy.

What'd she do, have the temerity to exit her home with an exposed ankle? Islam, the religion of peace.

I wonder what the most peaceful religions actually are? I'm guessing plenty were wiped out by less peaceful ones.

            Quakers?
