    Sherri Shepherd entered a contract with this woman and backed out of it. I fail to understand how she is not being held accountable for her actions. She appears to just have skated away from the entire thing without any reprocussions.

      I heard that surrogacy contracts exist in a legal grey area and can be hard to enforce because courts don't always recognize them.

      True but the divorce was filed in California, which recognizes surrogacy and the child support payments that would apply. I have to say, even if no contract existed at all, what an unbelievably shitty thing for her to do. She asked this woman to get pregnant on her behalf and then leaves her on the hook. She is the living embodiment of awfulness.

      I adore him. I have his first cookbook, which is a lovely mix of family stories and recipes. One of the recipes in it is for a banana bread that his late wife Kate used to make every week. It is truly the most delicious banana bread on earth, and I swear I tear up every time I make it. I can't imagine losing a spouse at a relatively young age, and it makes me that much happier to see such wonderful things happening for him now.

    Why was Sally applying for Medi-cal? Why is the surrogate's name on the birth certificate at all? Isn't this a legally binding contract...how can you just drop out of a surrogacy? And , most importantly, does Sheri Shepherd have the heart of Beezlebub? Although it seems to me that poor kid doesn't stand a chance between the two of those asshats.

      My understanding about how Bartholomew's name ended up on the birth certificate was because of a default of sorts. Since Shepherd backed out of the surrogacy agreement they could not legally put her name on it. So it defaulted to Bartholomew as the biological, albeit, "non-custodial" mother. As for why he applied for Medi-Cal, I have no idea.

      I might be wrong about this, but I don't think that surrogacy agreements are legal contracts. Something about being against public policy, if I remember correctly. And if it's not a legal contract, I guess it would make sense that they might come after her for child support (not that it's right, but it legally makes sense).

      That's an unattractive pic of him. He's not exactly my cup of tea, but I've seen photos/videos of him (not in Snape makeup) where he's pretty good looking. I also think a large part of his appeal is his personality? He seems like a good dude.

    It is very weird to me that there isn't a legal agreement here. I have been an egg donor and that contract is pretty tight - I gave up every right and responsibility down to the DNA. I have read previously, I don't know where, that she didn't want to go through with the surrogacy well before the child was born and the surrogate refused abortion. Am I crazy or was that news somewhere serious?

      I'm currently a surrogate in California. I have my own attorney and in the 2nd trimester we start the paperwork so my name is NOT on the birth certificate. I wonder if this surrogate went through a not so great agency and that's why she was left unprotected like this. My agency makes sure surrogates are protected in cases like this (I even asked about the Sherri Shepherd case when I was first screening agencies).

      I thought that the husband still wanted the baby, and Sherri just wanted nothing to do with it since they were divorcing and she was not biologically related to the kid. She just wanted to cut all ties.

      But if I read that, it was probably here, so not sure how true that is.

      Has anyone else gone to Cosmo? I think Beck is there but she's been gone for over a year so I don't really count that. Isha and Dodai are at fusion. Tracie and Callie are at Vice. Lindy is all over the place.

      I wouldn't classify the new staff writers and reporters as "minor league." Most of them have been awesome.

      Anna Breslaw also went to Cosmo but agreed 10 million percent on the insinuation that people have left Jezebel because the new writers are "minor league." That is nonsense. I am in AWE every day of the ladies here and love them so very, very much. I assure you my decision had nothing to do with any silliness like that.

      I was pushed out because of my anti-Cat Overlord stance. PERIOD THE END.
