His mother was an excellent player and a very good coach. She does a hell of a lot of work to get younger people who aren't rich into tennis. Both her sons are award winning players (Jamie has some doubles titles, I do believe.)

It baffles me that people are baffled by him having a female coach. It further baffles me that anyone would think that he wouldn't defend his coach against sexist comments. He's not intimidated by women and values them as athletes. Judy, hell of a job you did in shaping a great tennis player and person.

That explains his attitute. Often equalitarian men have had an emancipated mom as a role model...and yes, it feels really like we are still in the middle ages that people are so upset/surprised by him having a female coach

Judy Murray is such a fantastic dame, isn't she? She's a damn fine ambassador for tennis generally, and for women's tennis in particular. I remember hearing Laura Robson talk, a couple of years ago, about how much Judy does behind the scenes to support women tennis players, from psychological and emotional help, to political maneuvering, to letting them stay at the Murray's place when they needed a stable home, to giving enormous financial assistance, to just generally being a no-bullshit, stand-up lady for them. I was so surprised. I'd never heard of any elite player's mum doing that kind of thing, ever.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Andy's one of the first men to trust and employ a female tennis coach. It seems inevitable, really.

Good on him. And did they really do a split screen about the cost of the wedding rings? Jesus, what a reductive and insulting look. Because of course, the true measure of a woman is her cost.

As someone who has never been up to date on trends and was, in fact, voted Most Likely to be Arrested by the Fashion Police in high school, may I just say that I am delighted to finally be trendy. Thanks, vagina!

Good for Andy. On a more superficial note-tennis players always have the most beautiful lady friends. I know this because the television always gratuitously flashes to them multiple times a game.

From what I know, this seems to be the case. Several years ago, my uncle (by marriage- no blood relationship) decided my sister, who is blonde, tiny and really stylish, was hot enough to fix up with one of his relatives who was at the time a fairly successful professional tennis player. I am not blonde and rarely wear makeup or do anything with my hair, so my suitability was never in question. Before he tried too hard to set them up, though, he decided my sister was too old (She's 3 years older than tennis player) much to her and all of our relief since aunt's husband pretty much ignored her polite refusals. Tennis player went on to marry a very nice, though somewhat too tan and too blonde woman, several years his junior who dropped out of a professional program to model full time.

"Narrowly" winning? He conceded one set and the second set he won 6-0! Come on, now. That's not narrow.

There's a Vine going around showing Kim Sears (Murray's fiance) shouting "fucking take that, you shit (?) fucking fuck!" to Berdych

      I love her.

Haha! Did anyone figure out what Berdych said (under his breath) to Andy as they crossed sides after the first set tie-break? Whatever it was, it PISSED off Andy/Team Andy.

Apparently it was only Tomas saying "good job, Tomas" to himself....not sure why that would make Andy so mad, but that's what Tomas said in his post-match interview. Seemed like a lot of unexplained, behind-the-scenes tension in the match though, what with Tomas's new coach having JUST been "fired" by Andy like two months ago

I don't understand why he can't just say, "She's a good coach because she knows her stuff. Being a man or a woman had nothing to do with it."? To me the way he, and many others, put it is so patronizing.

He didn't even mention her gender when he announced she was going to be his new coach. Lots of other people had something to say about it and some of his key support staff left (which may have been coincidental). He's making a point of it because so many people openly questioned his decision. There was lots of Fox news style- I'm just putting this question/opinion out there- not really saying that I personally think it's a bad thing type of commentary.

Let's also not forget that he introduced AM as his coach last year in an interview without once using the word "woman" - and Billie Jean King has praised him on many occasions for his support of female players on Twitter. I wanted to note this on the off chance there will be future evidence that he's actually a slime ball. For now at least, we can believe in him.
