I wonder if she'll depict American Sadist Chris Kyle murdering "looters" from the roof of the Superdome. Seriously, fuck that guy.

Indeed. Of course I'm glad that he was making the whole thing up, but I still can't wrap by head around someone conjuring an anecdote like that to make themselves look good.

It's really smart to follow Selma with an tragic incident from recent years to highlight how little has fundamentally changed since then.

Hopefully AD keeps shining the light by doing a film about murderous police.

it's like, fruitvale station versus twelve years a slave. everyone loves old-timey racism, especially if you throw in a white hero or two, because then we can applaud at the end and be like, 'well i'm glad that's over!' if selma hit too close for home to the pale geriatrics of the academy, i'm sure they'll love revisiting ten years ago.

what i'm saying is, you rock, ava. keep on pulling no punches.

More power to her if she can get this film done before the year lets out. August will be the tenth anniversary and I'm dreading the fact that it'll be barely a footnote in the news or the media even though the region is STILL hurting from it to this day, 90% of which is almost due to sheer negligence and lack of support.

This is really smart, and I have high hopes for her next project as a maturing filmmaker. I just hope she doesn't get pigeon-holed by the industry.

I also love the duality of two films with female names for titles (assuming, I don't think too eagerly, that she titles this one Katrina). This film and Selma will inevitably be read together forever, so there's no point in running from the linkage.

"a narrative feature film chronicling a sweeping love story and complex murder mystery"

Katrina or not, I'd pretty much watch any movie (or TV show) that can be described with that sentence. Even one that begins "Nicholas Sparks presents..." So I have very high hopes. Can't wait.

Treme squeezed into two hours, it could work.
