The defense says everyone made mistakes that night, even that victim.

"She drank quite a lot of alcohol."

    THE FUCKING FUCK??

gang raping a drunk lady is better than gang raping a sober lady??

people can get drunk if they want to. men are not animals. a decent man wouldn't look at a drunk lady & be like 'oh let me put my dick in her woohoo'

suck a dog dick you victim blaming motherfuckers

Some people still believe in this bizarre notion that being drunk can completely transform a person's character and make them do things they would never do while sober, instead of simply admitting that it brings out all the shitty qualities that were already there.

You know, I was having an interesting conversation about sexual assault with my boyfriend and a guy friend of mine. We were talking about how this specific breed of bro drunken rape is particularly hard to understand (obviously ALL rape is heinous, but we were talking about this particular category) because, to your point, most decent heterosexual men are capable of self-control, but also, many of them derive pleasure from the fact that their partner is ALSO feeling pleasure. Both my boyfriend and friend were like, "Beyond just being a terrible thing to do, how would you ever get off on that? How is it fun to have sex with someone who can't participate?"

Yeah ... advocates gotta advocate for their client but ... why do news organizations have to report it like it's a reasonable response in any other venue but a courtroom where it is literally your job to come up with crazy shit for your client?

I'm basically echoing Erin here though, who nailed it.

This!!!!!!! An acquaintance of mine was recently arrested for fucking a former high school student of his two weeks shy of her 18th birthday. He would have still been her teacher but he quit (was asked to leave as a courtesy to avoid having to fire another faculty member). Our local paper covered his defense like it was the objective truth. It was full of how she pursued him, she was *almost* 18, he was a victim of his circumstances, bulllllll shiiiiiiiiiiit. The only reason I didn't write the editor was because I know his kids and ex wife, I didn't want to make it worse for them. What drove me over the top is how they described the sexual encounters as "consensual" despite her still being under age. It is amazing how we still cover sexual assault today.

      Fuck. All. This.

Pft, everyone knows adult men are not responsible for their actions if their crime involves a haver of boobs.

A defense attorney had the audacity to say that one of the defendants was too drunk to form the necessary intent to commit rape. What?

Yeah the defense in this case — both men's defense teams, really — is a real treat.

I feel so dispirited by this I can't make the typical "but was she asking for it" sarcastic quip. Seriously, how many times are these kinds of messes going to be fumblingly blamed on anyone/ everyone EXCEPT the rapists?!?!

I get that it's their job but I wonder if the lawyers feel gross about themselves after saying these things.

Either they are unethical bastards who genuinely thing rape is no big deal or they have the best poker faces in the world.

Coed. Isn't that great? It's like verbal time-travelling, only without needing to hork because of any temporal displacement sickness. You just hork because you want to.

Yes, the college "culture" of drinking and sex is to blame for the rape and object penetration of an unconscious and unwilling woman, and the subsequent filming of it. And she was drunk ya know, so she is equally to blame. I have to conclude at this point that either most Americans either don't believe rape is a real thing, believe it's real and actually like rape, or simply detest women to the deepest core of their being. What exactly is up for debate in this case?

Its time for the Are You a Rape Apologist litmus test!

        1) A woman is out drinking. She gets raped. Should her attacker be charged with rape?

        2) A woman is out drinking. She passes out. She gets raped. She only learns of the rape when it goes viral. Should her attacker be charged with rape?

        3) A person is out drinking. They get murdered. Should their murderer be charged with murder?

        4) A person is out drinking. They pass out and get murdered. Should their murderer be charged with murder?

If you answered No to question 1 or 2, and Yes to question 3 and 4, you are a Rape Apologist. (If you answered No to all 4, you may be a sociopath.)

ETA: Bonus Question: A person is out drinking and murders another person. Should the murderer be charged with murder? Answer: Same for 3 and 4 above.

B-B-BUT SHE DRANK ALCOHOL! HOW CAN YOU EXPECT A MAN TO KEEP HIS PENIS INSIDE HIS PANTS IF WOMEN AROUND HIM ARE DRINKING ALCOHOL?

Now I have a vision of an anthropomorphized penis ripping through pants and roaring.

And the man is crying, "No, not again, please no!" and the penis turns around and bites his face off, then scooches around like an inchworm.
