I know there are thousands of women in sororities and millions who have been. WHY?! I can usually come up with a devil's advocate argument for why people might do things I don't understand, but I got nothing on this one.

And so many things not OK but french tips are? Guh.

You arrive at college. You have been ripped away from all of your support systems at home. Maybe you didn't have much of a support system at home. You are confused and lonely and wobbly and excited and don't even know where your feet are.

Suddenly, there are these girls (or boys) who say, let us be your family! You can hang out with us! We'll be your friends and help you make friends! We have traditions, we have status. People like us. If you were one of the popular kids, you can help us. If you weren't, we can help you. You'll be invited to parties! And you look at them and think, oh thank goodness.

The fact that these girls don't know that French manicures are now thought tacky makes me question the whole Panhellenic system.

What I heard: The most important thing to learn in college is conformity. It is not the time to experiment with ideas and finding your style! If you want to advance to the basic bitch big leagues when you graduate now is them time to stop thinking and start bronzing.

The entitlement in telling another woman what to do with her eyebrows. I just — not to be obnoxious about it, but this is how women enact and enforce the patriarchy on one another.

Can we talk about spanx? I don't wear them because aint nobody got time for that. But a friend of mine went through a spanx craze, only to abandon them, because she felt that they squished her body fat in such a way that she looked weirdly tube-like. She called it the 'german sausage' effect. And after she pointed this out to me, I see it all the time now in spanx wearers. Like, sure, spanx smooths and evens out your body fat to some degree, but it doesn't necessarily look better than the natural lumps and bumps of free-flying body fat.

Blergh. I don't do shapewear. I think a nice slip has the same smoothing effect without all the struggling to get it on and the feeling of not quite being able to take a deep enough breath all day.

I kept reading polish week as Polish week, in which case I imagine the prep is less manicure and more:

The thing that made my blood boil was the eyeglass part. YOU CAN PULL MY EYEGLASSES FROM MY COLD, DEAD FACE YOU REGINA GEORGE CLONE!

I am SO FUCKING TIRED of being told to wear contacts or get Lasik. I AM FUCKING FINE THE WAY I AM! I love my eyeglasses and I couldn't give less of a fuck if you don't think I look hot wearing them. Oh no, let me run out right now and get expensive laser surgery on my EYES because my glasses aren't sexy! I'M NOT AESTHETICALLY PLEASING TO THIS PERSON, WOE IS MY LIFE. I have neglected to be sexy, the most severe of the cardinal sins of women!

...I seem to have a lot of pent up feelings about this...

I used to wear contacts. They were making my eyes progressively worse. They don't like me in glasses, they don't like me so to heck with them.

You do you! Some people work the living shit out of glasses, I don't understand why anyone would tell another person to get LASIK or contacts.

Uh - this is still a university, right? I mean, they still have classes and assignments and stuff, beyond the time constraints presented by being polished for 15-hour days of recruiting PNMs?

Maybe they should just all pin this handy-dandy guide to their closets to save time.

If they have 15 hour days available in college to recruit, then academics are not difficult enough.

I don't know why seaglass is so popular, but a stroll through AXO Pinterest pages reveals a healthy interest in things made out of faux seaglass. (Real seaglass is pretty rare these days.)

I don't know how that translates to a shirt, though. Blue? Just.. a blue shirt? Anyone?

Oh, man. I mean, you're only young once and there's usually only one point in your life when you can really wear whatever the fuck you want and do whatever to your hair, and experiment to find what you like and what makes you happy... these directives look to stifle all individuality and make me sad.

And are they suggesting wearing Spanx to class? BE FREE COLLEGE STUDENTS, BE FREE AND BURN THE SPANX

I think this is what bothers me most. It's like carrying every insecurity you had in high school over to the college level, when college is supposed to be the time where you start figuring out how to not give a fuck.

Not to mention that I would find this group of perfectly manicured/polished/Spanxed women completely and utterly terrifying, and it would certainly NOT make me want to join their sorority.

Anyone else feel like you need a nap? Or suddenly like dyeing your hair, nails and pubes a brilliant emerald green?

...well, it is Friday...but knowing the amount of work that already goes into dying hair on the head, pube coloration seems more trouble than it's worth. Is that an actual thing done by humans?

    Sincerely,

A human who once dyed his hair emerald green
