I've also noticed that if you play "My Anaconda," and "Baby Got Back," together over a loop they both sound very similar. Ooo. Creepy.

Bro country of the 2010s sure makes country in the 90s look good in comparison.

Newsflash, the same corporations that own the major labels in mainstream pop music own the major labels in mainstream country music, which is just pop with more banjos. They want a smooth, easily digestable product for the masses, and the people who assemble (seems like a better word than write) these songs get paid with that in mind.

They all have banjo; I can never figure out why. On all the bro-est of the bro country songs, whether its drop-tuned metal, rapping, (both), what have you, there is always that banjo. Does the banjo union have the last good contract? Or is it the son of a label executive playing on them all? Who decided every bro country record needs a banjo track before it leaves the studio?

The banjo is literally the only way anyone would know it's supposed to be country rather than pop-rock.

It's weird, at work we listened to country music on Wednesday as we stocked our store.

Every song by a woman, their voices sounded almost exactly the same. The beat, the music, everything. It was hard to tell which artist was which.

Everyone by a guy, the music sounded exactly the same, but you got different levels of deepness to the voices.

And nearly EVERY song was about drinking. Like, drinking a LOT. I get that's always been a staple of country music, but I don't need to hear about "day drinkin" or "getting drunk on a plane" at 6:15 am when I'm trying to work.

I loved country in my formitive years (91-95), but listening to it now makes me want to throw the radio against a wall.

The "good" country is out there: Drive By Truckers, Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit, Shovels & Rope (although I'd put them more in the "Americana" category). The fans of pop country may find these bands' hippie audiences off-putting, but they probably need to expand their horizons anyway.

Yeah, there's still some good stuff. Steeldrivers are a cool blend of bluegrass and rock, and of course Hank 3's shows with three sets - old-style country, hellbilly, and thrash metal are over the top amazing.

It hasn't really sounded like country since the day Tammy Wynette died.

With all due respect to Saint Dolly Parton- and no one deserves more, even she has been spending the last 10 years doing niche projects like bluegrass roots, 60s folk, and neo-disco, probably because my guess is she can't possibly stand the studio-pop-country formulaic shit that gets played and sells nowadays, so she's just doing what she wants (and what she is doing is light years better than what's passed off as Country-Western today).

She turned up doing guest vocals on an album by my favorite Irish traditional band, Altan. She killed it, too, even though vocally she didn't perfectly mesh with their lead singer. You could tell their heads were in the same place even it their voices weren't.

I grew up in a rural hick town and played music on and off. People where I lived ATE THAT SHIT UP. There was a long running joke that if we used the same 3 or 4 chords and had the words 'patriot, dog, pickup truck, denim, 4x4, troops, soldiers or muddin'' somewhere in the song we'd be famous. Interestingly, we wrote a LOT of super shitty songs with those words and always made quite a bit of money at the bars we played.

I thank the FSM every day I don't live in that craphole anymore.

Country music exploited the shit out of 911 and made money hand over fist with all their "boot in your ass" bullshit. They lost all credibility in my eyes when they pulled that crap.

I would rather call this music something like "southern pop-rock." Calling it country just ain't right. Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, or Merle Haggard (to name a few) are country.

Hilarious part is that the mash up is actually quite entertaining to listen to knowing it's a complete mockery of the songs included in it. I couldn't help but smirk and giggle.

Individually I think the songs make my ears want to crawl inside my skull and hide.
