The Politico article should give us all pause. Two subtly fascist things at work here:

    1) Take home point in that peice is that de Blasio believed the NYPD was spying on his calls during the campaign. Per my previous thesis that what the NYPD is engaged in here is a year-long silent coup, this is consistent with a dept that is no doubt leveraging its insider information - as the security detail of the mayor - to manipulate the press and keep the Mayor in line. There's a reason the military was not charged with protecting the President - even the slightest suspicion elements within the NYPD are using the intel against the mayor should warrant an independent agency to serve as his transportation and security detail.

    2) the idea, albeit casually thrown about, by Politico that the Mayor has "lost the police" should offend -if not shock - any liberal minded person. Not a single person in the NYPD was elected, their boss however, Mayor de Blasio was with 73% of the goddamn vote. They're not ALLOWED to be "lost", and any report they are should lead to calls of them getting the fuck in line, not hand wringing and shrugging. Just because the NYPD assets its above democracy doesn't make it so.

I never understood why people think the whole "Most blacks are killed by other blacks!" argument was a good point to bring up in this debate. Does proof that our society is still heavily segregated along racial lines and that blacks tend to live in more depressed, more dangerous communities really help your argument that racism is over?

Their argument isn't that racism is over but rather that it is just and right. Instead of seeing increased violence as a symptom of segregation and poverty, they see it as the cause.

Remember, according tot hem, it's not racism if its true.

All it is is a distraction. Most white people are killed by other white people. The problem isn't who's *illegally* killing other black people, the problem is who's *legally* killing other black people. We have a justice system that brings black people to justice for killing black people. The justice system for white police officers (and even white-ish people) who kill blacks is different. We want the same justice system for both.

      Everything else is a distraction.

The Post is ridiculously horrible. It is racist as fuck. It's also sexist as fuck. Homophobic as fuck. Generally, in every way, shitty conservative reactionary shitstain of a waste of paper as fuck.

I really can not put into words just how much I hate that piece of shit rag, and every single person who works for it, personally and for ever.

The fact that my fellow NYers eat that shit up like it's going out of style is just the icing on a shitcake.

NYP used to have "free days," where the newsstand would be giving it away as I got on the train in the morning. Now, don't get me wrong, I do like the tabloid size for easy subway manipulation, but I would always, always drop the $.50 on the Daily News, rather than sully my fingers with the free fecal matter of the Post.

There's a bit of News Corp hypocrisy at work since Fox News and the Post glamorized the sniper that had targeted federal agents during the stand off with the racist rancher, but local police aren't allowed to be targeted by people who hate the government? I don' t remember Mayor Rudy 9/11 going nuts about Fox News doing its best to pump up the stand off and the gunmen as putting law enforcement officials in the crosshairs.

Oooh, cherry picking is fun isn't it? Let's ignore the fact that black men are killed by cops every 28 hours and let's ignore the institutionalized racism in the police forces of this country because none of those facts are convenient for the racist "black people are dangerous and no one else is" narrative.

Seems like everyone is ignoring the fact that politicians are paid like rock stars... Or that our country is going to shit because we love money so much. I'm Native and I really feel for both sides here... You're all being egged on by the media, which is turn making millions off the deaths of those black men... Yet you say nothing about that... Follow the money people, because in the end, corruption and Capitalism are the enemies of whites, blacks, AND natives.... Why don't we just call ourselves AMERICAN, because after all, we're on the same side here...

It's all well and good saying "other blacks are the REAL DANGER!!!1" but they conveniently handwave the fact that the *cops* automatically think that way too - black folk be DANGEROUS, like demons or warlocks, y'all - which is exactly the reason men like Garner end up being murdered in broad daylight.

Still, thanks for the editorial, white dude.

It's interesting: A man in my neck of the woods saw one of his friends being arrested by the police on the side of the highway, pulled out a gun and tried to shoot the cop as they were driving by the scene of the arrest. The cops apprehended him a little while later when he went on a high speed chase with the authorities. They also arrested the individuals in the car with him at the time. He'll be facing justice in a court of law and stands a good chance of being put in prison for a VERY long time. Mind you this is in Utah, which has a ridiculously stupid high rate of cop homicides.

3 guesses what color skin he has.

It's not interesting. That was a bad person. Hopefully he will face justice. I can tell by your tone that the person was black and you are delighted about it. The point is, too many white people face far less justice than they deserve, and that is tearing this country apart and allowing those kinds of people to thrive when they should be in prison.

I care as much about cops as cops care about those that have died at their hands.

Today I saw a black kid, maybe 14, in the park by my house shooting at birds in trees with a BB gun. The gun was clear, hard plastic with the orange tip at the end of the barrel. It, clearly, wasn't a real gun.

It's stupid shit to shoot at birds, but I'll admit I did the same thing at his age (at our house in the country, without my folks knowledge). My city is pretty urban but pretty liberal too. I thought about telling him to stop but I was with my 4-year-old and didn't want to start anything.

I also felt very scared for him. I wasn't going to call police over some bullshit and risk this kid becoming the next in a long line of disturbing headlines; plus, I didn't want his blood on my hands. I was scared because what if some did call the police? What if the police happened to roll by? This shit is real. I was also scared because this kid and/or his parents must be the stupidest people because, in today's climate, walking around as a young, black male, with a BB gun is putting your life at risk. It's foolish.

Remember when Obama's election was supposed to signal this new, post-racial America? That was just six years ago and shit is waaaay worse. It feels like we've regressed as a society. It's conservative news, police departments and politicians who are responsible because they all benefit, financially and otherwise, from racial strife. It's sickening.

Also, I digress, has the NRA said anything about the NYPD murders?

Truth is, a young man of Dante de Blasio's age faces far more danger from violent men his age than he does from cops.

Even if you accept this is true he still faces some danger from police and the mayor is giving him methods to mitigate that specific danger. He probably tells him how to drive safely and but that doesn't mean he wouldn't face any dangers for say riding a bike without a helmet.

Exactly, young black men and cops are a threat to Dante. They're not mutually exclusive, but to racist fucks, they are.
