I thought that I was the only one getting them!

Perhaps people home for winter break are reading old stories?

I remember when Wet Seal was Contempo Casuals. My friends and I thought we were so clever calling it Cunt-tempo Casuals. We also called AF Aberzombie & Bitch, so you know, we were TOTALLY PUNK ROCK! Anyway, I bought my favorite pair of flip flops from Contempo. They were the best. I still lament their demise, 14 years later. I also bought my first ever lingerie strap tank top from CC. This was a big deal, as I was already rocking DDs in high school and had to sneak the tank top out of the house with a cardigan, because my mom was not having the whole exposed bra strap thing.

A girl in my high school French class worked at Wet Seal - and boy did we have fun talking about her job at the Phoque Mouillé, or when we were really saucy, Wet Phoque (ah, nerdy yet juvenile French humor)

Did Wet Seal always have "shitty club clothes," and I just didn't realize it (15 years ago when I shopped there as a teen)? I remember it being kind of generic casual clothes, jeans, etc. I also remember it being, while not expensive, more than the Forever 21 price point it is now (it was at more of an American Eagle price point).

Although, now that I think of it, I did beg my mom to buy me a miniskirt from there (with the built-in shorts! Remember 1998?) that was black and neon plaid so maybe I was kind of a shitty clubwear kid.

Yeah, but somehow when we were 16 it was acceptable to wear to school. Or at least, that's my experience.

Does 5-7-9 or Rave still exist? I haven't been to a mall in like... 10 years.

    Also...

Wet Seal is falling apart. (ZING.)

    BOOOOOO!

When I was a kid, things were different. We wore Contempo Casuals when we went out for drinks and random sexual encounters and we liked it.

okay, what are the kids even wearing these days? In all seriousness, have new stores popped up lately that I just don't know about?

I still own two skirts from wet seal from all the way back when I was a freshman in HS. I was so excited that I found anything that would fit my chubby plus size butt so where that wasn't lame-giant, or sears. Sure they were marked OS (one size fits all), and sure I never found anything else there while I was in high school, but damn if I didn't love those skirts.

I love one of those skirts so much that I renovated it to wear at my wedding. Yep that's right; A shirt I purchased on clearance from 1998 wet seal was the bottom of clothing I chose to get married in. And if I may say so, I think I looked fantastic. I have trained Mr. Muffins to agree.
