Pretty much every time Lynch talks, he sounds like a mid-level mobster meeting with local businesses, and suggesting that they pay into his protection scheme so that 'nothing bad happens'.

There's an entire generation of NYPD officers - hired during the last two mayors - who have known nothing but the ability to act with impunity. Anyone who thinks that's going away overnight - or without significant turnover - is nuts.

What is the solution to this insanity? The police union openly denigrates the authority and office of the Mayor for not kissing their asses at every turn. I'd love to see de Blasio - or really any elected authority - tell these jack booted thugs to fuck off and turn the tables on them somehow. But they've become so entrenched, seemingly untouchable and, of course, toy soldier-ized that imagining how a fired up police union would respond to any substantive rebuke or revocation of their powers is troubling.

This is all really both shocking and interesting as hell.

I mean, it's SO clear that our police services are entirely out of control, and clearly have been for some time.

Civilian oversight? They absolutely refuse it. Even simple criticism? They react as if they are above reproach.

This is, of course, what you get when you (1) allow a militarized mentality to invade community policing, and (2) treat police officers as "heroes" and constantly—FUCKING CONSTANTLY—tell them how great they are and how much we owe to them.

Maybe we need to both stop this military mentality our police have, however one does that, and stop CONSTANTLY FELLATING THE EGOS OF THE FUCKING POLICE.

    Goddamn I hate this country.

Actually, it would seem as though they aren't militarized enough. A soldier, for example, would never openly criticize his* commanding officer or NCO. If he* did there would be harsh repercussions. He would never openly suggest that he would do less than what was expected of him* or try to circumvent the spirit of his orders. When individual soldiers are frakking up his fellows will try to correct his behavior to avoid collective punishment; they are just as responsible for his bad behavior as he is if they knowingly allow it. They are even held accountable for mistreating an enemy. It's not perfect, but I rarely ran into the type of stuff the police are getting away with when I was in the Army.

There's a strong contingent of fully propagandized conservative insurrectionists in the US military, don't kid yourself.

And I, personally, would love to see our police become a hell of a lot less militarized. Like maybe these departments could stop actively recruiting former military personnel? That would be a great start.

At least Rikers is under federal lawsuit over using solitary confinement to punish teens, which is against international law, if not American law. That place sounds thoroughly rotten.

Some do, some don't. It depends on whether or not we've signed agreements regarding that particular law, Comrade.

It has been alleged that the NYPD under the alleged leadership of the alleged mayor of New York were allegedly brought to anger by the alleged use by the alleged mayor, one Bill de Blasio, of the word "allegedly."

It is the alleged request by the alleged Gawker Universe that all alleged persons so allegedly involved in this alleged event please to go throw yourselves off a ledge.

    Forthwith.

They almost certainly can. Give me a couple of hours, I could put together a 30 count criminal indictment: violation of federal criminal civil rights statutes prohibiting operating under color of law to deprive individuals of their due process rights; impeding the administration of justice; criminal contempt of court; theft of honest services; official misconduct; obstructing emergency medical services; witness tampering; witness intimidation; harassment; criminal interference with health care services; false sworn statements. If they are not being prosecuted, it's not because they didn't commit a number of crimes...

The reason why the word "allegedly" isn't used in killings by cops is because the question is never whether or not the cop actually killed someone. We know that they did, they know that they did, the question is whether they will be prosecuted for it.

They are a fucking gang. The NYPD is probably the most dangerous gang in New York State, if not the US.
