And yet Peggy Noonan can't grasp that for many of the same reasons why parts of the world (ie: the Middle East) probably resent the fuck out of the US Amercians the same way many parts of Asia (everywhere Japan conquered) still resent the fuck out of the Japanese?

Remember she predicted Romney's victory over Obama by looking at signs on peoples' lawns in Florida. She is a genius.

I'm trying to recall whether the Germans did anything unbecoming of gentlemen during the war, but despite my concentration, I can't think of anything untoward from that camp.

I hate the hell out of her, but any time I hear the name Noonan, I instantly think of Caddyshack and it makes me smile.

I still think The Last Samurai was one of Tom Cruise's better movies.

"I don't know how they got in there or when, but "Peggy Noonan" is just the name we gave to a pile of shiny blouses we keep in that office at the end of the hall. Look, my entire job is to just crack open the door, pump three spritzes of Nancy Reagan's favorite perfume, and fling three raw porterhouse steaks into the room. This one time I was curious, you know? So I crack the door open a little wider than usual and I shit you not, in the middle of the office, which totally empty by the way, is just a pile of blouses. You know, like maybe your old aunt might wear. Creeped me out. So I just do my job. Spray the perfume, leave the raw meat. In the morning there's a stack of papers sitting right outside the door, like someone slid them under the door from inside the room. There's no typewriter in there. No computer. No printer. I just know that I take the papers to the boss and he prints whatever they say."

'I would have guessed "because Americans are racist against non-white people." But who knows.'

uh, in this case Noonan is spot on. you are incredibly ignorant if you dont know that Japan did some incredibly fucked up things in the war. Just yesterday Gizmodo did a piece discussing, among other things, Japan's bioterror experimentation program using Chinese civilians as subjects. The rape of nanking as a whole was way worse than what the Nazis did. But yeah, people only resent the japanese because they are racist, huh?

Yeah, those were big topics amongst whites in the 80s.

Isn't it a form of racism, then, that the actions of the Japanese prior to and during WWII and the atrocities they committed on the Chinese and the Koreans, are kind of pushed to the side as "stuff that non-white people did to non-white people on the other side of the world"? That the Rape of Nanking and other systematic atrocities are still not very well known? And keep in mind that the Japanese of that era had their own ideas of racial and cultural purity. They tortured, bombed, and imprisoned hundreds of thousands of non-Japanese civilians (including whites, Asians, and Pacific Islanders) simply because they thought they were lesser people. No wonder they got along so well with the Nazis (although it's funny to think that both of the major Axis players probably thought of each other as subhuman as well).

Hmm...yes, perhaps. Or perhaps it's just a weak justification for Peggy's habit of continuing to get sexually aroused every time she thinks of the overwhelming masculinity of post-war American supremacy.

What other reason could there be for such a trite, fortune cookie-ish whitewash of our use of torture in a pointless effort to get information that was of limited value anyway?

As Peggy Noonan turned off her Dictaphone and eased into the chair made from Ronald Reagan's Air Force jacket, she turned to the large tank filled with cloudy water. She put her spindly hand to the glass and whispered, "It's almost time, Ronnie. Almost time."

And from the murky depths a small hand met hers on the other side of the glass.

Surprised so few are missing the $1,000,000.00 obvious connection here:

A conservative shill who is probably otherwise fine and dandy with CIA 'enhanced interrogation' believed Japan - arguably our closest post WW2 ally after the UK - nonetheless deserved its U.S. acrimony long after the war because it tortured.

Google waterboarding and you will learn it was used as evidence against Japanese prisoner of war camp interrogators in their war crimes trials.

It's so tiring having to bear witness to this whole cottage industry of pundits whose goal is always—alaways—to justify racism/socioeconomic disparities/you name it.

Noonan is, of course, the worst example.

When will this end? Or at least end in its current formulation?
