"And it's right next to the kitchen where the food is being warmed."

This also stood out to me, do they not even cook? I'd rather crawl across pee floors than eat a "warmed" lunch.

At least schools aren't serving Taco Bell or Pizza Hut any more.

A lot of NYC public schools don't have kitchens. And it gets even more fun in buildings where schools share space.

the building, which contains the Dos Puentes and Juan Pablo Duarte schools

I'm glad I don't have to go number Juan or numero Dos there.

My vote goes to the old pre-renovation Grand Central men's room. The one where you walked down a long set of stairs to get to.

Kids these days...so out of shape they have to crawl on the floor to escape the stuck doors. In my day, we had the strength and tenacity to climb over the top.

Plus, once we got up there it was the perfect perch for a good game of 'depth charge'.

I doubt this one school has"the worst" johns in the city, simply because the sheer vileness of those facilities is unquantifiable. I went through K-10 in NYC public schools in constant fear of needing to ever use the school bathrooms because they were so gross. I rarely did, since at that age, holding it in was manageable (and I always left the bldg. for lunch). When I moved to a different city for 11th grade, the student restrooms were clean and usable - but that city is another subject entirely.

ETA: I am over 50, so disgusting NYC School bathrooms are hardly a new phenomenon.

Clearly the school funding doesn't extend to buying the janitor a new mop.... Or having a janitor... Or even just a mop....

"Yeah, but just think...this way, the kids are getting a real hands-on lesson in subjects like science and history! Why, they're literally crawling in the filth of past generations!"—Dept. of Education, prior to this decision

Our education system is failing these kids if they can't see that peeing in the sink is better than crawling on a bathroom floor.

Here's a genius thing that existed at an LAUSD school my son attended. The toilet flushing mechanism did not work when they had no electricity. So at least more than once they had to cancel school because they had no flushing toilets. And if they were IN SCHOOL when it happened, well, you get what that would have looked and smelled like.

Here's a sign that the condition of your school is disgraceful: the lavatories look far too much like the one in Trainspotting. Damn, this is depressing. Then again, the NYC public schools started replacing the last 18 coal-fired boilers in 1997 thanks to a bond issue.
