      Oh trust me, there are plenty of people who willfully ignore data in sports too. They'll complain about the "stat nerds" and "computers" taking over the sport instead of people who "use the eye test" and "just feel the game".

      So yay we're all screwed? Wait that wasn't the lesson here...

    I just finished a great book on the different attitudes to race in Africa (Nigeria specifically) and the US/UK. It's called Americanah- I highly recommend.

    ETA wasn't there some chat once of a Jezebel book group? I want that shit started!

      I read that book (well not all of it, but most, still reading) and that is not what it's about on it's head. It's more about relationships, perceptions and the ideas that black people hold toward African Americans (actual African people who emigrated to the US) and vice versa. The way you described it might make one disappointed in the book because they'd be expecting something more factual (like commentary/stories about the differing race relations in those places) and less fiction.

      Still a great book. Just wanted to clarify that.
