You're telling me no Mexicans are qualified to do anything at a [studio]? Really? Nothing but mop up? What are the odds that that's true? ... The odds are that there's probably a Mexican who's that smart who's never going to be given a shot.

As a Chicana in science, I can confirm I've had to have this conversation with way too many colleagues. Replace "studio" with almost any other professional setting, and it still works.

Chris Rock is doing the Lord's work here.

      You've named three Mexican directors.

      Now name three more.

The point about white people being less crazy is so fantastic I can't believe no one's said it that way before.

He's totally damned right. Yeah, black folks are doing better. But they're doing better in spite of the shit crazy white people are trying to do to them. And, crazy white people is a number that's getting smaller everyday. But the problem of crazy white people is still there - and that's there no matter who says otherwise, because the crazy white people set up the barriers and like to dominate the discussion about them.

I was blown away by the interview yesterday with the "Obama is progress for white people" and that paragraph about role models might be even better. Brilliance.

That was my absolute favorite line from the interview, that Obama was not the first black person qualified to be president, he was just the first one we noticed. The whole interview was gold. So insightful.

CNN ran some of his excerpts yesterday, where he said something to the effect that if America wanted to have a talk on race relations, Rock would make sure that only White people were involved in that discussion. I was trying to figure out exactly what he meant, but I think it goes along with his idea that Whites, as the majority, really set the tone for how race relations unfold in America, what that looks like, and its rate of flow. Blacks have always borne the brunt of White supremacy, so to conjure them up in some abstract dialogue with Whites is an exercise in false equivalency.

Rock has a somewhat unique way of breaking an issue down that challenges how you might have looked at it before.
Somewhere between calling people out on their bullshit, without preaching at them like Bill Cosby did.

I sent that Vulture interview to a lot of people.
I haven't been as interested in what a comedian has had to say about America since Hicks.

Amen to this. It's that quality only the best comics have where he just leaves you stunned that you never thought about something in that exact way before.

The part where he talks about hypothetically going to Ferguson as a journalist, I was like, fuck yeah that'd be incredible. Then I thought he should go into journalism full time and how insanely awesome that would be. Still be Chris Rock, but do reporting.

He truly is. I mean, there's no danger of him getting less funny with age because he's not really about punch lines and references, it's just "here's this thing that we all see and here's all this absurdity that logically follows from it that we somehow don't see." Comedy at its most pure, which of course means 80% tragedy.

He's mastered the art of being funny while making a point or making a point while being funny. Works either way.

Interesting part of the Frank Rich interview for me was seeing which groups were sharing which parts. More radical types were sharing the part where being black is like being Bill Murray in Lost in Translation and talking about how what we call black progress is really white progress. Democrats were sharing where he talked about Obama being a Hall of Fame president. And critics of current liberal politics were sharing where he said that college campuses have become lousy places to do standup because there is so much language policing. Seemed like there was something for everybody in there.

I saw a few white people reposting it like " YES! White people are not as racist and crazy as they used to be, Chris is backing us up!"

Chris Rock could never be president because he speaks truth. And if you think Obama could even touch these kinds of statements you're insane. He was ripped to shreds for simply commenting on his own experience in the wake of Trayvon Martin. You think the politicos wouldn't jump on this type of talk? I've already heard several ignoramuses call Rock a racist for what he's said.

Adam Sandler has more than twice as many producer credits as Chris Rock.
