The Egptians didn't treat black people like slaves. There were black (and many other kinds) of slaves. It wasn't based on race, at all. But beyond that there were Nubian rulers of Egypt. And elite Nubian and Sudanese military forces in theEgyptian army.

Ancient Egypt, like much of the ancient world, was multiethnic. But there weren't any Welsh people that we know of.

Thank You! The idea that the world can be divided into black and white is a modern and stupid one. It was a culturally/economically stratified, polyethnic society.

As a half-Persian man, it has always annoyed me that the census considers me 100% white. Peoples of the middle east aren't white! (I can only assume it's set up this way because Jesus was white?)

My dad was the child of immigrants from Syria. Born in Boston, he considered himself a Yankee. The first time I said that in many circles he's not considered white he kinda flipped out a bit. He couldn't really explain his reaction, which was odd for him. I have cousins from his side that always check off "other" on questionnaires.

The next US census will likely have a category called MENA (Middle Eastern and North African) to resolve that problem. Few if any Americans would recognize a Palestinian or Libyan as being White. Considering all racial categories are constructs, it makes sense to construct one more so we can better understand this group.

    "They treated blacks as slaves."

Does he know they also kept Jews as slaves? It's kind of integral to the plot and story of Moses. Someone should tell him that slavery in Ancient Egypt wasn't the same as slavery in antebellum America.

And the Hebrews in ancient Egypt aren't the same as the Hebrews in modern America. They were likely much much darker skinned.

The sandals of King Tut. On the left is a Hittite and on the right is a Nubian. Both are so inferior as to be eternally trod upon by the glorious Pharaoh. While Murdoch is wrong that the Egyptians didn't exclusively enslave Africans, there's a metric fuck-load of art showing that they had very poor opinions of them.

Hollywood has a history of miscasting blond Aryans as Jewish Semite Jesus. While one expects more authentic casting nowadays, here are a few of the oddly cast Jesii(?) in the long history of this strange casting legacy:

    1) Fair haired, blue-eyed Brit HB Warner as Jesus, King of Kings, 1927

    2) Blond, blue-eyed Swede Max von Sydow as Jesus, The Greatest Story Ever Told, 1965

    3) Blond, hazel-eyed Texan Ted Neeley as Jesus, Jesus Christ Superstar, 1973

You're right in use of the word "jesii". The plural for jesus is jesii. Like the plural for genie is genii.

I also use Lexii for the plural of Lexus. (and thank you for scrolling down to actually see this buried comment of mine)

Racists: "Egypt is that African nation that's not located in Africa but on the Mediterranean. Everyone knows the Mediterranean is full of dark-skinned white people that are not as good as English white people but still white people. Not blacks because blacks couldn't have invented pyramids and shit. If black people have an advanced civilization with knowledge and architecture and stuff, they got it from aliens or white people riding mammoths."

Seriously, how the hell do these people believe this shit? I mean, seriously!

Who let this old man use the hand-cranked twitter machine?

"My grandfather is younger than that, and we don't let him use the remote control for the TV!"

White man who runs the media erases blackness from Egyptians and calls them white.

        Makes sense.
