"I"may very easily be Kendrick's worst song. It's a good anthem for self-confidence, and whatnot, but lyrically it's not his strongest and it relies on one of his gimmick voices.

I don't mind his weird voices. With him, it seems less of a gimmick and more a storytelling tool

The Decemberists have shared the first song from their new Tucker Martine-produced album, What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World, which was teased a few weeks ago when lead singer and songwriter Colin Meloy busked on a corner in Williamsburg.

There is nothing about this paragraph I don't thoroughly enjoy.

With every project Kendrick Lamar taps deeper into his weird side & i aint mad about it! I love seeing us in all of our nappy headed glory! :-)

This new song has grown on me. The video reminds me of Janet Jackson "Got Till It's Gone" one of my fav songs and videos.

Ditto on the resemblance to the "Got Till It's Gone" video! That's the same thing that came to my mind when I saw it. I was kinda neither here nor there on the song until today, but I saw the video and it just made me feel... I don't know how to say it. It really moved me, which is so rare for a music video. It reminded me that we are so beautiful. What delights me about Kendrick's stuff is that it feels like it comes from a place of deep love for his people, flaws and all. It's so beautiful and brilliant in that way. It really gets to me.

I'm right there with you. I was having a conversation with a good friend of mine yesterday and we talked about the election results and it lead to discussions about race relations and black culture. I said considering all the bs that we and pretty much all POCs deal with on a daily basis, we are some dope ass people; we're beautiful!

Kinja wouldn't allow me to upload the Janet clip, but that is one of her best songs and videos IMO (and don't even get me started on the Velvet Rope album). But back to this topic at hand: We have more than enough to cry about; lord knows I've shed my tears in my 30+years. I just love seeing genuine and sincere depictions of us enjoying life. It's good for the soul.

I really don't get Tinashe. I loved '2 on' but the album "Aquarius" feels very separate from that vibe. It's much more lady stoner -esque, like Jhene Aiko- who I actually dig, but on Tinashe it feels... fake. I really wanted to like the album but I was disappointed.

I am excited to check out Teyana Taylor now though. And Miguel is ALWAYS the best part of every song he does.

I was listening to the Decemberists song, when my husband walked into the room. He cocked his head to the side, and said - "is this the band that sings about whaling and rape?" He's not wrong.

I first heard "i" on the car radio a couple weeks ago, and it was the purest radio joy I'd had in a long long time that wasn't nostalgia-laced (you know, early-morning "Radio Free Europe" on The Alternate Side-type thing). Thank you, thank you, Mr. Lamarr. — Love, an old white lady.
