The most dangerous thing Glenn Beck has ever seen is anti-discrimation law.

It is his God-given right to be an asshole and no fancy pants laws can ever change that. Even thought the God he pretends to worship says he shouldn't be an asshole but whatevs.

I thought about submitting this to Kara's Shade Court, but I'm not sure we need to.

Fun fact, the Bible only condemns "man lying down with man", it says nothing about lesbianism.

Because women are not people, you atheist. They're just property and vessels for children to pass through this world.

Mayor Parker is a real badass. She's dragging Houston, kicking and screaming, into the 21st century. As much as they'd like to act like they're as liberal and progressive as Austin (pretty much the city in Texas every other city aspires to be; the cool older brother town if you will), Houston is still regressively conservative by the rest of the country's standards.

I find it so interesting how political ads in Houston were Democrats begging to be seen as ultra conservative (vote for me! I hate Obama, love guns and protect fetuses! God bless!) while in other parts of the country, Republicans are trying to come off as moderate and even as liberal-leaning as possible so as not to be clumped in with the current Congress. Here they've gone so far as to claim women have a right to their own healthcare decisions and reproductive rights. Imagine that!

What is interesting is that Houston's demographics are some of the closest to the country as a whole

Very true! Houston is incredibly diverse. And their population is growing at a much faster rate than many other cities in the country. Thus supporting Wendy Davis' hypothesis on the Daily Show the other night that Texas will inevitably turn blue. Not any time soon but one day, it'll happen!

I'm mailing my straight mayor a bunch of copies of Heather Has Two Mommies.

PS: I'm not 100% sure about this, but the Bible never mentions lesbians, does it? I thought it just talked about how women shouldn't dress like men and said something vague about how they shouldn't perform unnatural acts or something, but never actually talked about lesbians. Anyone here know the Bible well enough to confirm or deny this?

Well the book of Ruth is joked about among lesbians for it's porn value. There are references, but since some Christians have picked and chosen which books they include in OT and NT, I don't remember enough to give you a 100% answer.

I know it's been said a ton of time before, but these people should try reading the Bible (such as the Tanakh) before they send it out in self-righteous rage. It's not all sunshine and roses.

Part of the problem is not reading, but interpretation (not to mention the various versions of the Bible differing from each other in small but apparently significant ways). I've already seen one argument here about interpretation. It seems most Christians want to interpret the Bible in a way that makes sense for their lives, but only a percentage (how big or small a percentage, I have no idea) interpret it in a way that causes them to act like decent people.

In Houston, there tons more than that came from.

Actually heard this discussion between a gay couple and a guy wearing a bald eagle baseball cap at a coffee shop along Studemont in the Heights one morning:

BaldEagleGuy: (When learning the other guy disagrees with him on an issue) "Oh...your one of those left wingers, huh?"

The guy he's talking to: "Hey man, you ever see those birds with only one wing? They don't fly very far."

I was at a Houston hospital, waiting for my sister to get out of surgery and started talking to this older man who mentioned he worked in oil. I tried to get out of the conversation, thinking we would come to blows about energy policy, etc., but right at the start the man asked if I knew Al Gore and proceeded to tell me what a genius Gore was and how worried he was about global warning. He had done his homework and had stats and information at his fingertips. I was shocked and delighted, to say the least.

Welcome to Texas: In the city you get to work and live like a human being. In the country and the suburbs, questioning the FOX news nation and sticking up for yourself is akin to the second coming of Santa Ana.

I miss the days when my state got mad at picante sauce made in New York City.

To be fair, I recall half-hearted campaigns to send politicians tampons. I don't think anything came of those efforts.
