As a woman in that tweeter's demo, I can confirm this. In both the Toronto media and music scenes (Am a member of the former and sometime member of the latter) he's considered a huge creep.

A friend of mine used to work at CBC; she is claiming in posts that the news is "bad" and "dark" and that it's "all coming out soon".

Working goss (ie unverified speculation) around town is that a story about Jian is about to break and they took it to CBC first out of respect.

Hectic but also important. The reporting they did in Ottawa was mature, balanced, and just thoroughly impressive. If Harper wanted a reason for their existence (he doesn't) this week would have been a solid one.

And here I thought he was leaving CBC to get ready for the Moxy Fruvous reunion tour. (Jian is the one in the red shirt)

Wow...this cringe-inducing crap was meant for Canadian children, right? Why is that audience filled with adults? I don't get it.

This is the Montreal Comedy Festival, which is world renowned for stand-up, but they do host other types of acts too. This is most likely one of 4 or 5 acts. It does sound like it's for kids, but no. Just cheesy as shit.

So do Americans actually know who this guy is, or is the interest based on that XO Jane piece?

His show's sold in the US by PRI. Not a huge deal, but then again, it's apparently an open secret that this is going to blow the fuck up in a week or two with some very dark, fucked up stuff.

Canadians in the Gawkerverse will understand the significance of this tweet but for all those who don't, The Giller Prize is our top literary award, roughly our equivalent of The Booker Prize.

To me, this tweet speaks volumes in terms of something major being afoot: there's nothing speculative about it and, unfortunately, it's got an ominously official ring to it.

I have a hard time believing Jian's status update with his version of events is an entirely accurate portrayal. There's no way the CBC would keep Sook Yin Lee (who masturbated to orgasm on film) but then cut someone for a consensual BDSM relationship. Someone wants to get their version out first, before the "freelance journalist" gets to print.

Wow, I had NO idea. I live somewhere that gets Q broadcast in the afternoon, so I tend to listen during my lunch break while I run errands. Since nobody else I know listens, and I am in the States, thus unaware of most CBC information, this comes as quite a shock. I do have to say, I'm not like SUPER into his interview style so I won't miss that much, but since this is the first I heard of any of the controversy, I'm quite surprised. I hope it comes to light soon and people involved get some closure, that's for sure.

Shocking to me too. I honestly like the show a fair amount, but it's hard for me to say whether that has anything to do with him as a host: I think he gets great guests and they're given a lot of time to answer questions in fair amounts of depth. Really too bad he's apparently such a piece of shit though. I'm assuming they'll just give the show to Pia Chatapati, who is really good.

Gay men don't want him to be gay, thanks. There are enough self-absorbed wankers who are lousy in bed in the bars already. Or so I've heard.

He's a very good interviewer, but I've always found his self-regard off putting. There was one interview in particular that made me dislike him/find him unsettling. He was interviewing the woman who wrote Eat, Pray, Love for her book about her marriage, and I actually found her very thoughtful and insightful. I really, really wish I could remember the exchange more clearly, but at some point he questioned that there was really such a thing as a happy relationship between two committed people who loved each other. Not just that it wasn't in his repertoire, which clearly it wasn't, but that he thought everyone else was faking it, or that no one really got anything out that kind of relationship. I actually looked up his age online hoping that he was 23.

Well he can't have a relationship so he can't imagine anyone having a healthy one. Creeping after women 20+ years younger also shows he was never interested in a healthy, egalitarian relationship.

And at 47, for an Iranian-Canadian man NOT to have settled down a family with all the money he has and the new $1.8 million mansion he bought in the Beaches (a very trendy area east end of Toronto) would be an issue with his parents. Iranian culture is all about family and extended family relationships.

But who would want to be with this guy given his alleged sociopathic behaviour? Sounds like he met lots of great women who would have been willing to go the distance if he was real with them, faced himself, got some effective therapy, but he lacks the skills and commitment to be in an honest, loving, authentic relationship.

He's beyond damaged goods at this point, when a man reaches that age and behaves as he allegedly has, it will take a major paradigm shift for him to change. I don't see that he has the interest to make the changes he would need to be a healthy individual, given that he was allegedly abusive for most of his adult life.

He is actually sounding more and more like Paul Bernardo, another Canadian sociopath who is now sitting in jail doing a life sentence. I guess that's why Ghomeshi has just hired big gun criminal lawyer Marie Henein, an Egyptian lawyer, to keep him out of jail. Interesting that he has hired a criminal lawyer when no criminal charges have been laid against him. Yet.

This will haunt him for the rest of his life. Even if it is only allegedly, this defines him.
