Do these people really think they are going to create a viable electronic currency?

This bitcoin crap will never work!

It's all just some kind of masturbatory fantasy that only a techno-libertarian moron could love.

While I was reading the article, I was thinking: "How many Bitcoins equal one John Galt?"

And how is it not already a viable electronic currency? I've used it to buy everything from deodorant to a new kitchen table, as well as donated to Wikipedia and Greenpeace. It's easily more widely accepted than dozens of other currencies issued by third-world governments.

Bitcoin is a tech that suffers from the 'Super Bowl mindset'—people who are fans of it think that it's THE hot commodity, consuming the attention of everybody, while in reality, it's a rather small, insignificant piece to the entire landscape, which is comprised of other people who just don't care about it.

Perhaps, in another couple of generations, once those who lived 'pre computer' are all dead and gone, it'll take bigger strides. Until then, though, it just doesn't have the broad appeal to convert those used to good old fashioned money.

It also doesn't have anything to base it's value off of either. There's also no governing body to smooth large transitions in the value of the currency.

I'm glad I wasn't too far off-base! I don't have much experience with it, I admit; probably because I'm in that 'pre-computer' group (but not by much). It just seems that those that cheer it are invested in trumping up the advantages of it.

So when Mt Gox skedaddled with nearly a billion fictitious dollars of bitcoin where did all these off-the-grid liberty seekers go? Straight to the justice department. Poseurs.

Libertarians are people who demand the government protect their money from thieves and then refuse to pay for the privilege.

I offered to pick up the bill, as a thank-you for rescuing me from sitting alone in an Orlando hotel room. Not a chance. "Trust me," Gardner said, "I think I make more money than you."

    What a giant dick.

Man...so many jabs at Disney in this I almost thought it was the "Disney sucks" article rather then about Bitcoin.
