    The term is "bottle bomb" and is surprisingly common with homemade beer and soda. The problem is yeast. The yeast is eating the sugar and increasing the CO2 in the bottle.

    I would guess that they tried to naturally ferment these (which isn't uncommon for some organic sodas) or they had yeast contaminate the soda. Either way, this is a sign of a shitty manufacturing process.

      I've been studying how to make home brews and literally every single piece of information that I looked at warned about this happening. I can't believe the company either didn't know about it, or just shrugged it off and went on without a second thought.

      Good call. Nobody bottles something with live yeast in it, not least because after the yeast hits your digestive tract, you'll have a trail of blue smoke following you for days.

    Thats just bad quality control. I like the idea, but if they can't stabilize the yeast the taste of the product must vary widely depending on how many days its been in the bottle. The fact that it could explode at any moment and maim someone is hilarious, I mean, until someone is hurt and has to go the hospital to get shards of glass removed from their face and eyes. Then it will be hilariously tragic.

      Or you could just transport them chilled, like they do with those unpasteurized juice smoothies. They, too, explode if stored at room temperature.

          this guy is a dink if he's trying to chalk this up to "new market place learning curve" nonsense. This has been an issue in beer, wine, and soda for decades. It boils down to poorly produced products and inexperienced people.

            Who puts yeast in soda and why wasn't it pasteurized before shipping? Also, shouldn't the bottle caps come off before the pressure gets high enough to rupture the bottle?
