NPR did a piece on the iBeacon technology when a new IOS rolled out about a year or so ago (maybe longer). Apple, a company that takes as much free PR as possible, didn't tout this new technology at all. Except to commercial clients of course, like stores, restaurants, etc. In fact, after that NPR story, I googled iBeacon and couldn't find a single article on it, even though it was one of the most important updates to that new iOS at the time. It uses low level Bluetooth to track you through a store, and record your every move and location, down to about a foot or two. Scary shit. Sorr but these tech companies are just as evil as Exxon or Halliburton because they try to act like morally superior companies but as we now know they rolled over to the NSA, they use their technology to track us. It's bullshit. I am not on social media because I don't want to be tracked, now they pull this shit in NyC.

I keep the bluetooth off on my phone. It's the only wireless vector that hackers can use to access the phone, and ad servers use bluetooth to track you. Every time I do a security or OS update on the phone, it turns bluetooth back on, but I just turn it back off right after.

OK, totally what I was thinking. I have seen more working payphones on POI than actually exist in the entire country I think.
