There are occasional posts about Pussy Riot and Bikini Kill and such, but they are usually completely unrelated to the music.

Also, Fergie is the fucking worst. She made a mediocre hip-hop group into the worst musical expectoration in history, and her solo shit is just that - feces, thrown by a monkey. She makes the world a much worse place.

For the longest time when I would hear her name I would think it was the Duchess of York. That used to confuse the shit out of me.

    "When did Fergie start singing?"

This song is not infuriating or death incarnate. In fact, it's so tired and cliche, it elicits no emotional response from me whatsoever.

Perhaps this is just my ignorant inner (and outer) 818 native white girl talking, but haven't you ever noticed that Mexican culture is in fact prevalent in Los Angeles? L.A. culture is very heavily influenced by our Latino population as evidenced by everything from the Dia de los Muertos celebrations to the many Vallerta supermarkets, botanicas, etc. American culture in general is a unique mix of many different cultural and religious influences. That's why they call it "the melting pot." Los Angeles in particular has a very diverse population and that's part of what makes it great. I've never been shooed out of a botanica because of my ethnicity and I don't see why it's a problem that Fergie be inspired by an art style just because it originated in a country in which she was not born (and unless I misread your post, neither were you....amirite?)

I dig the song. Since day one she has had an amazing voice and flow and the record labels kept trying to iron out her *kinks* for distribution to the masses. It does not always come down to the color of peoples skin but rather the things that mean something to them. Talent is talent is talent and I think it's great that she pulls from other cultures and creates great music.

This is freaking great. Also on the Jamaica/Kingston comment, she says in the chorus(?) that she's singing about countries, states, and cities. It's nice to have Fergie back.
