Oh God, the polar bear is kind of slumped on the ground and he looks really sad:

"Reporters on the scene are tweeting that the police have "kettled" in the remaining hundred or so protesters with steel barricades, while, somewhat paradoxically, ordering them to disperse."

Isn't that the now standard tactic for modern police crowd control? Box everyone in, demand they disperse, and then arrest as many people as you can for disobeying the dispersal order. I've seen it happen a million times. Basically "you are not breaking any laws, so we will make up a temporary order you cannot obey and then bust you for not obeying it. " Very Kafkaesque.

"Activists grumbled that the People's March amounted to a commercial for large environmental groups like 350.org, as well as big labor unions and mainstream political organizations."

Leftists claiming they're the authentic revolutionaries while accusing other leftists of being bourgeois phonies? I see that some centuries-old traditions never die.

lol .. Leftist .. what is this 1980? .. Perhaps you can pull out Castro and Khrushchev while you're at it .. and even funnier the bourgeois ... hey you gotta throw in some Marx and Mussolini. And why not just throw in some Octavio Paz and how the "Leftist" and existentialism destroyed American Idealism. .. Thank you for your mishmash .. I had a good laugh.

Peaceful protest is a suckers game. The power-elites are counting on you to remain peaceful and you are doing exactly what they want. They can continue to control you via your addiction to consumerism and all things screen-related. Every once in a while you and your buddies get to let off some steam shouting "whose streets? - our streets!" (even though everyone knows that they aren't your streets, cause you won't take them, They're the cops' streets dummies - "whose streets? - the cops' streets!" doesn't have the quite the same ring to it, even though it is an accurate portrayal of reality you live in). You get to plaintively decry "corporate power" to your fellow travelers via text message, non-ironically using your corporate electronic toys to do so. It's all so pathetic. Don't you realize that someone is going to have lay down their life to make a change here? Probably alot of someones are going to have to die or kill if there is even any chance of disturbing the entrenched power system that rules your life from the cradle to the grave. Maybe I'm wrong and #floodwallstreet will be the catalyst for radical legislation that caps carbon emissions and institutes a new national gas tax to make its way through congress to be signed by Obama, this year. Cause that's the time frame we are working with now, if it doesn't happen right now, it might as well not happen. Which scenario is more likely?

"non-ironically using your corporate electronic toys to do so"

please, o veteran guru of Dissent That Matters <TM>, teach us how to do it ironically to avoid the burn of your roast-chestnut.

and so heartening to hear that only sufficiently righteous/outrageous death (because of course the extant outrage has nothing to do with countless ignominious deaths) promotes meaningful change; did you get that from a tarot reading?

not that i really begrudge your personal versions of optimism or despair; it's not like we can all just pick one or the other AND 'get anything done'.
