shit, it shouldn't even be honorary imo. it should "count", so to speak. TUFTS should be expelled from tufts. they are the real failures.

source: i have failed out of several colleges, so i know a flunker when i see one.

Yes, they should give her her degree, then give her an honorary doctorate

Would she even want a degree from that place after all it put her through?

She actually talks about that in the Tufts Daily piece:

"It would represent something that I felt like I should have been able to get the chance to earn years ago," Wanjuki said. "On the one hand, I do feel I deserve a degree. On the other hand…Tufts had such a strongly negative impact on my life."

Good question! As Callie shared...I still don't know. I feel like I *deserve* a degree from Tufts. BUT...I am not sure how comfortable I would feel taking a degree from a place that literally did not care whether I was raped or not.

I figure I will cross that bridge when it comes. Honestly, Tufts has ignored my presence since I was expelled. I really doubt they will give me the degree.

I'm a Tufts student and I nominated her for an honorary degree as well. I hope she gets it! I'm so glad to hear others had the same idea, when I read an article about her here on Jezebel last year the first thing I wanted to do was nominate her for the honorary degree. Make it right(ish), Tufts!

Yeah! I'm a Tufts alum, pretty proud to see students like y'all who continue to be dedicated to social justice. Maybe it's time for students to occupy Bendetson Hall again if the administration doesn't respond....

Let's not forget that "Tufts senior John Kelly" is also experienced rape at Tufts. Amazing to see all the work he has accomplished, and impressed with his strength to keep on holding Tufts feet to the fire. Him paying tribute to the work that Wanjuki has done is lovely.

I meet him at Tufts, and he is just an amazing guy.

If it wasn't for the good intentions of the students pushing for this, I'd say she should act like she was going to accept it, then during the ceremony reject it, mic drop and walk off stage.

As an alum of Tufts I'm so proud to see that students there remain committed to social justice. When I was there a friend of mine attempted suicide, and the administration learned of it because an ambulance was called, and we wanted her to get help. She was promptly kicked out of the school. It seems like that has been the administration's MO, remove any possible liability to the school.

Straight up depravity. I've heard of these stories, but every time I read these, it hits me how people can be such assholes.

I'm sort of shocked this even happened at Tufts. Isn't it pretty well known for being very liberal?

As an alum, yes, it is. But the administration is much more conservative, and primarily concerned with covering their asses.

she is most deserving of this honorary degree (and I agree it should be a "real" one) she has integrity, a great heart and an amazing spirit. She's been making nothing but upward advances for this cause and is still the most humble person I know.

See now this is the kind of passive aggressiveness from students that I like to see.
