      They're white and privileged. They'll get a slap on the wrist and be free to go on with their lives. Their victims will have to sue them for medical costs and lost wages and hope the lawyer they retained doesn't take more than half the settlement.

      For that matter, where are the alleged "moderate whites" in all of this? Don't you think it's a little odd that they refuse to stand up and denounce these attacks?

      ETA: Since whites aren't the only ones involved in these attacks, I'd like to hear a bit more from heterosexual leaders as well.

      I have relatives that are "unpleasant and awful," but they're not going to jail for it.

      Let's call them what they are: violent criminal bigots, every last one. None of them get a pass, even if they just watched. Doing nothing to stop the bashing is exactly the same as physically participating in it.

      I hope with all my heart that this gets pushed to the national headlines—the crimes, the arrests, the punishments. I want to watch their mothers, fathers, grandmothers and sisters weep, just like the families of the victims, but in a court of law instead of beside a hospital bed.

    I saw a text from one of the people involved through a friend. His side of the story is one guy from each opposing groups were "taking shit" to each other then one of the gay guys hit his girlfriend. Then two guys beat the shit out of the other guy. That's paraphrased, I have the text but would rather not share. doesn't make any of this right, and I don't fully believe their story at all

      Yeah! Those 17 people that came out of the fracas with no injuries, whatsoever, were the victims! Whereas the two gay guys that ended up in the hospital were totally at fault. Come on, man, at least TRY some critical thinking.

    That's Philly for you in a nutshell. Lived in the area for 5 months and forever had white folks warning me about the black youths "wilding" downtown, but the only harassment I ever got was from male crackers who had issues with two androgynous white ladies walking down the street together. To his credit, I did get to practice my self-defense training on one guy whom I left with a real sore bag of nuts after one of these "encounters". And I'm in my 50s now; I'd rather die than put up with this shit anymore. I don't feel too much safer in rural Northern California, but I've had ZERO episodes of this kind of behaviour out here. Wanna have some children in your future, buddy? You can call me a dyke, but you touch me and your ass is mine. And you will be lucky if there are any police around to save you.
