    But The Local, an English news site in Austria, claims that the two girls contacted their friends on WhatsApp to say they're alive and well.

    Okay...

    IBT and The Daily News are also saying they're alive as well.

    So... they're neither pregnant nor dead nor pregnant and dead and this entire "ISIS is coming for our white daughters" story is sort of pointless hysteria bullshit. All that matters is "something something ISIS is lurking in the shadows and coming for your young, precious TEEEENS." so, mission accomplished I suppose.

    ETA: As an aside: can we please stop calling WhatsApp "social media". It's not. At all.

      Well, I know why the media keeps referring to it as such. It creates the illusion that the information they're parroting is somehow public or verifiable when in reality it's just "something an unnamed government official told us". Saying "according to alleged text messages sent to the family" doesn't sound as sexy. This, if you notice, is why literally no media EVER links to the supposed "social media" in question. It's because it's either not on social media or it's simply someone else repeating what they heard on social media. Propaganda popcorn.

      Also helps play into the always popular "ISIS: masters of social media" narrative. Teens. Social media. White girls. ISIS - got to hit those "now" g-spots. I'm just waiting for my first ISIS sexting scandal.

    Bears mentioning the only photo The Post (and many, many other outlets) are using as evidence these young women are with ISIS (or any militant group) was taken at least six months before they're April 10, 2014 "disappearance". Indeed, despite several spooky shots of -GASP- white women in head scarves, there is no picture evidence they've shacked up with any jihadis.

    The media, in an effort to sex up the story, seems to have just said "fuck it", and google searched for one:

        What might be beneficial is that it seems like the hardest of the hardcore international jihadists are migrating to Syria to fight for ISIS, no better way to stop this than to have them all in one place.

          What won't be beneficial is when hundreds of radicalised young men and women return to their home countries in Europe and America with training and a history of killing. Radicals target already marginalised young people, the same why paedophiles groom kids, they look for weakness and exploit it. In this case that weakness is a dissatisfaction with their lives and their countries.
