I'm pretty strongly anti-religion in a lot of ways. At the very least, you can say I'm an atheist (because that's true).

I hate shit like this. I think it is childish, I think it's petulant, and I don't think it's doing 'our side' any favors. Yes, I have a sense of humor. Yes, I get it. Yes, yes yes, I understand. I still think it's stupid.

It just seems silly how she's trying to make it seem like some kind of religious protest. How is the DMV forcing religion on anyone? You're not protesting anything!

Idk, it just annoys me when people try to make something more serious than it is. If she had just said she did it to see if she could I would probably find it a lot funnier, though still dumb.

I'm so torn. I think that religious laws need to be challenged by minority religions and the areligious. I also understand the risk that those members face in doing so.

The problem with this is that the point gets muddled when the religion is not actually a religion.

This is funnier if you know about the religious decorations debacle at the OKC capitol building last winter.

"She says she believes no one should be forced into religious beliefs."

Okay...this statement is 100% true, but what does that have to do with your drivers license? No one is required to declare their religion to be able to drive. I think it's totally fine to wear a colander on your head & say, "I thought it would be funny since Oklahoma says I can't obscure my face but they didn't say anything about colanders!" But to say this is a kind of religious protest is just bizarre and stupid to me.

I somehow think there's more to this story. What sort of legitimate religious protest would you approve of. Because there's been one going in the middle east for a really long time. Do you approve of that better than a harmless strainer? Again, you have failed to think through you arguments and comment for the sake of comment. Makes no sense. Shut up.

Hahaha yesss, yes! Someone told me to shut up because I think wearing a colander on their head is stupid! This is the best ever. This is the BEST post to get upset over! What religious protest would I approve of? How about an ACTUAL religious protest, because I think you'd be hard pressed to find a religious battle at the DMV. And yes, please continue to compare this to the Middle East. This is the exact same thing.

And how did I not "think through you argument?" I clearly stated that if you wanted to make this about wearing something silly on your head because it doesn't break the rules of the DMV then go for it, but it has nothing to do with religion. If there's more to the story, that's fine, but I formed an opinion off the information given to us. That's how this has always worked. Just because you disagree with me doesn't invalidate my opinion.

True, but that incident occurred in South Carolina, not Oklahoma. Your point about the world being nuts still stands though.

Colanders are nice enough, with their fancy, big-city punched holes in different designs. At the end of the day, though, I'm old-fashioned, and I think you just can't beat a good old tin-foil hat. No, sir, you can't. That slick-looking colander, that might be what all the kids are wearin' nowadays, and I suppose that's fine. But you want something that's really gonna stop the government's ray guns from getting inside your head? You want to stop an alien, son? No, listen to me, listen, dammit, and you'll learn something important, something they're never gonna teach you in those fancy universities: the only thing standing between you and Martian mind-control techniques is your headgear, and son, if this tin-foil hat was good enough for my father, and for his father before him, well—I guess it's good enough for me.

I adore this. We need more ridiculous new religions to shine the light on the ones that have existed for so long that people forget how ridiculous they are. You gotta think that the first person told that Mary was a virgin was like...."She's a virgin mother? Um....do you know what all those words mean?" Bring on the colander hats!

(No offense meant, religiousy types. I'm pretty hardcore atheist, tho, so sometimes it comes with the territory. I heart you anyway.)
