        I am very impressed that just the sheer volume of texts got him that much jail time (even if most is suspended), a fine and mandatory psychiatric care. Depressingly sometimes it seems like former partner stalkers have to cross a pretty deranged line before it stops being excused as just "heartbreak".

          Yeah, I had a pretty insane ex who wouldn't stop texting like this for YEARS. One episode early in the EXTENSIVE BREAKUP, I had to change my cell plan to unlimited texts after he decided to send me 200+ "Fuck You"s in an hour.

          I hope this kind of thing becomes more publicly discussed. At the time, I didn't know that you could take legal action against this sort of thing.

          I hope it's further discussed too! Basically any person who repeatedly contacts you, in any way, after you've said "do not contact me any more" is worthy of at least a call to the cops to start a paper trail towards a restraining order. The problem, though, is that sometimes the contact has to include violent threats before it's taken seriously even if otherwise it fits the profile for stalking/harassment. I think that 200+ "Fuck Yous" probably would have been taken seriously though! But either way - it's good for more and more people to realize that this is stalking and there's nothing wrong with reporting it. And sometimes the harasser will even get a decent punishment for it!

              Just before my youngest step son asked this one girl out, she was sending him 300 text messages a day. I sat him down and said either ask that girl out or let me drive you down to the police station to get a restraining order. At this stage, there's really only two options when you get that many text messages from someone.

                Was he at least texting her back? Like, were they having conversations, or was she just sending him 300 unsolicited texts a day. Because if he wasn't responding there would have been two different options, it would have been restraining order or witness protection. >.> Just sayin'. Teenagers be crazy.

                She was just texting him. He was replying to her later, because I told him to do something. He'd have to turn his phone off because it was buzzing so much during everything. They've been going out 5 months now (gah) and now he texts her ~50 times a day and she texts him about 500 times a day. Seriously. I pay his cell phone bill.
                (I took him out for dinner and a movie the other day and told him to text her to tell her not to text until such and such time because I didn't want his cell buzzing non stop, and we needed to have our cells on because we had to split up at one point and meet back up. Gah. It's bad when...)
