I live 30 minutes from AC but almost never go there. I'm not a gambler, the other stuff is too expensive and it's a dangerous town.

The last time I was there was to go to Buddakan which is attached to Caesar's on the pier and I didn't see any bats. A couple of years before that I went to the Borgata and there were no bats there, at least not that I saw.

Any legislator who wants gambling in his district ought to be required to spend a week in Atlantic City.

Pennsylvania's gambling revenue is now the 2nd largest in the country after Nevada. That's what's killing Atlantic City. Atlantic City had the market cornered in the eastern US for about 30 years but did nothing to clean up the town and provide a reason to be there other than gamble. It's on the ocean for chrissake! They could have developed an incredible beach party scene to really rival Las Vegas as a resort town apart from just gambling, but instead they left the town to rot. Good luck trying to turn it around now.

The AC casinos are now playing up the EDM/ pool party scene (look who's closing out Revel: Steve Aoki!) but it feels forced and too late. AC is just. not. sexy.

Great comment. These places closing is a testament to just how little common sense and how much general stupidity has just taken over the powers of be in AC. Somehow, they just never acknowledged that they'd face any competition.

There was a chance when gambling first came to AC to change the town and make it a real destination, but instead it remained casinos and a run down town. And now that there are casinos everywhere, why go to AC?

True. The 2 or 3 casinos in MD are part of existing retail complexes and aren't clustered together (40 min. drive). Though I voted against casinos each time the issue was on the ballot, I'm glad legislators have not created hubs dependent on gambling for their survival.

I'd disagree with you assessment that it is a run down town. I've been living here, 15 mins outside of Atlantic city for 24 years. It used to be run down, but there has been a lot of development in the area since then. High end and outlet shopping venues and new homes were built less than 10 years ago. The problem is competition in NY, PA, and MD. All areas many of the gamblers AC casinos relied on to bus in and spend their dollars. Also, after The Borgata open with wild success, other casinos tried to duplicate their success and market to a younger, more hip customer base at the expense of their older customers. Casino entertainment used to be people like Tony Bennett and Tom Jones. Now it's DJ Aioki and Kanye West. The problem with that is younger people don't have the disposable income that people in their 50's and older do.

everything dies baby that's a fact, but maybe everything that dies someday comes back.

On the plus side when my wife puts her make up on and does her hair up pretty there will be less confusion about where to meet in Atlantic City.

        The Band's cover > Springsteen's Original

A resounding yes to The Band's cover over the Springsteen original. It's my favorite cover.

I love The Band and I love the Boss, but I cannot stomache that cover at all. I'll give it another go, but I remember it being too saccharine, a little too twangy to hold the heartache of Bruce's song.

As he left the prayer service, a downcast Wilmar "Willie" Salazar, 48, of Atlantic City, said he was at a loss as to what he will be doing once Trump Plaza closes.

"I've spent 25 years there," he said. "It's been a long time since I had to look for another job. I'm thinking of maybe going back to Colombia. I worry most about my mom. I take care of her. She is older and needs her medicine. I just don't know yet."

I bet all three will be bought, pretty quickly. Trump Plaza had a buyer last year, but the deal fell apart last minute. Showboat has interested buyers, and Revel will be bought quickly after a few weeks of being closer, for cheap. The Atlantic Club got bought after it closed, and will reopen as a hotel only property.

The problem with AC is they kept electing the same idiot for years (Lorenzo Langford), who is as corrupt as they come.

no way. If revel gets bought it will just be to keep it closed.

Explain why someone would spend ~$200 million (estimated), and keep it closed. Even if it is to not have another casino, the hotel part would definitely be kept opened.
