I was drugged and sexually assaulted at a frat party my freshman year at Temple University. The frat bros banded together to intimidate me. They taunted and harassed me around campus, in my dorm building, etc. The school did little to help me, other than suggest a counselor. I wish I knew then what I know now, because I would have demanded some fucking actual retribution.

This nail polish is a great idea. They should produce it as a clear top coat so more people will wear it, and it should be distributed at every freshman orientation nationwide.

I'm sorry to hear that happened to you. Unfortunately it sounds all too typical.

I disagree with you about this gimmick being such a great idea, however. This is a band-aid for a very specific type of rape, and it takes the onus of prevention off the men, and it may give women a false sense of security.

If schools are going to go the effort to furnish their female students with anti-rohipnol nailpolish, they should probably put that attention and those resources into telling men not to rape, and providing consent education to both sexes.

I disagree. I think it's a good idea. It doesn't "take the onus of prevention off the men." It simply acknowledges that some men are going to commit date rape and don't care about consent, even if they are properly educated. This product is to protect women from those men. Unfortunately, even if every male on the planet understood consent laws/norms, rapes would still occur because some men just wouldn't care. Education fixes stupidity, not evil.

A friend of mine noted that the most commonly used date rape drug is alcohol, so there's that.

a friend of mine noted that the most common date rapers are men, so there's that.

maybe instead of telling women they shouldn't drink or go to parties we could, you know, make men understand the definition of consent.

How many men don't understand that putting roofies in a woman's drink so she'll go home with you is rape?

This argument relies on the assumption that date rapists don't understand that they're committing rape. Do you really believe that?
