Can we sue them for constantly blathering about the Duggars like they are some sort of American royalty?

Easiest case in the world to find a sympathetic judge/jury I'd bet.

"Robertson said when she pitched a story about an African-American model who'd been killed, Gleick told her the victim looked like a "slut" and the magazine wasn't interested."

Yikes! Between that and the Essence comment, I'm not sure how she made it four years there without going completely batshit. Also, I'd like to know what level positions the other seven minority employees held; I have a sneaking suspicion that most were lower level if the racism was this entrenched.

The lawsuit is a little confusing re: the other African American employees. It sounded like some were in editor positions, but maybe on the web as opposed to in the mag?

I've always figured that was their market. It's not as if it's some high minded magazine designed to reach a broad array of people., it's vapid crap intended for a very clear target audience.

True, they should change their title, because that demographic is not the only "People" around. Just saying...

Are they advertising recipes for making delicious meals out of babies? J.Swift said to feed the poor babies to the rich, they don't even get it.

I do have one dealy-bop. The last line has a minor problem with it.

    stories involving "white, middle-class suburbia".

Granted, People magazine does like its stories about white people. No doubt about it. My wife reads the magazine all the time. 90% of the stories are about rich white people, not middle-class. I think she meant to say that the stories are written "for" white, middle-class suburbia. Thank you. Carry on.

I have to disagree that she would have been told specifically written "for" rather than "about."

I write for a national publication close to People's demographic, and I have been told—in writing—to never ever ever write about anyone who isn't a white middle class woman because our readers don't like brown people. Even if the person is the top most expert in her field, if she sounds like she isn't white, I am supposed to ask if she has someone else I could speak to instead.

So, yes, the "for" is included in that, but the "about" is explicit. I'm sure she's been told the same things I have.

Isn't this the norm at most related gossip publications (such as US, OK, etc)? I remember reading somewhere that unfortunately there is less demand for pics and stories about black celebrities (unless you're Beyonce, Jay Z or someone in that stratosphere). That's why a lot of magazines don't pay much for those photos and stories from the paparazzi. It's what lead to the rise of sites like Mediatakeout and Bossip. Don't get me wrong-if what Robertson is saying is true then that sucks and Time should be held accountable. I'm just curious if she wouldn't be in the same boat at some of the other gossip rags.

Wow - just wow. This and seeing the Duggars on the cover this week - especially after the disgusting comments regarding the transgender community - just really has pushed me over the edge. I will not buy People anymore. Ridiculous.
