Weird and amusing, but I really hope they're not actually real. Some of them are pretty offensive.

Regarding our Home Depot trip, all I wanted was for us to go there on my birthday because that's where you usually go on Sundays. All I wanted was to share that experience with you and have you teach me some stuff about tools and what not.

Yeah no. I remember when i would go skiing and golfing with my father. They are cherished memories, more so now that he is no longer with us. But i sure as hell don't recall bonding while we were getting the skis tuned and waxed or while he bought a new golf glove. If the writer had said they were going in bond in the garage or a shop of some kind doing work, then i might buy it. But who tries to bond with their dad in the Home Depot?

That sounds like a recording from Bob Vila's therapy sessions where he has to talk about his relationship with his father.

here we have a real unicorn: an article with a question in the title that can be answered with a 'yes'. seriously, i know at least 3 people who do this shit for the lulz. they link to their 'hilarious' posts on facebook all the time.

i can't imagine it's new, either. i bet people used to do this in the classified and personals ads in the newspaper, back in days of yore when such a medium existed.

I used to do this frequently about 10-12 years ago. I liked to write, had a ton of free time, and didn't have much of a platform otherwise. This was back when Rants & Raves were actually good/funny/not infuriating.

i like the example in this article. the humor doesn't really wind my particular wick but the poster put enough detail in that no one is going to mistakenly think it is about them and freak out with potentially disastrous results. so as long as no harm is done, i guess i just think of it as a cheap & easy way of publishing your new short fiction.

"mono y mono" is wonderful. It has me picturing all these people with glandular fever laid up in bed looking miserable.

Some people have strange hobbies... It reminds me of the prank call album my friend and I made when I was a kid.

You had a prank call album?

You are now my official hero.

That's also a great band name.

By the way...is your refrigerator running?

I write fake Craigslist posts all the time. It's a way to flex my creative muscles with total anonymity. I've never thought it was a strange hobby, but I guess I'll go home and give myself a hard look in the mirror....and then keep writing fake Craigslist ads. Because it is fun and because this is America.

How many of this fella's friends are regularly cruising Missed Connections?

Not gonna lie, my friends and I did this for years because it's great free entertainment. Reading them out loud to each other was a laugh riot that could last hours.

Missed Connections are hilarious. I wonder if anyone in the history of ever has ever actually met up with someone they posted a missed connection for. Because it seems like the ads are always either A) so creepy that if the person it was directed toward DID see it they would likely never write back or B) so vague, like "the girl at the drugstore wearing a dress" that no one would ever know who it was meant for.

He is metaphorically addressing all the crazoids on the Missed Connections Craigslist site that are more than likely someone's father...or grandfather. Brilliant. I wonder if any of the poor bastards read it and took it too heart.

I used to troll CL some times about two or three years ago. I started doing regular date posts, but most of those are fake, so I started posting to attract them, and try and determine the what words they keyed on. Not to mention you get sent random nikid pictures of woman.

So then I took it up a notch and started doing weirder ones, for DM and BSD and straight guy looking for blow job. And those I love, because you get real responses. And these people know that they only hit once in a while.

I've only once started to catfish a woman who was looking for a sugar daddy, but I couldn't keep it up, and I broke character after the fifth exchange. She was a mad and I stopped doing it.

I did get onto a swingers email list though, so that was positive.
