I'm reading I Am Malala right now, and it's fascinating hearing her talk about the rise of the Taliban in Pakistan. There's a fundamental fear of anything that would allow for individuality. Women must stay inside and wear the burqa if they come out. Men must grow beards of a certain length. Everyone must wear plain clothes. No music or television is permitted. Malala says "If God wanted us all to be the same, why would he make us so different?" Why indeed.

To me, the rise of groups like this that twist Islam remind me of the Christians who forced people to join the religion and my favorite part of Dogma. Chris Rock's character Rufus says something like, You guys missed the message, it's about the idea. You can change an idea but a people go to war over religion.
