Considering Gawker just suspended Jay Hathaway for alleged plagiarism last month, is this really a time to mock another site's editorial standards?

You think BuzzFeed should have suspended Matt Stopera? They didn’t.

The interesting thing to me about this whole saga is that a number of the posts deleted for not meeting editorial standards are by current senior editors. Seems weird to employ in positions of power people whose work was so bad that you feel compelled to remove it from the face of the Earth.

It doesn't seem so weird to me. People want to delete the shit they are embarrassed about. It's not like buzzfeed is the library of congress. Let them be deleted. It's like how the further into your career you get, you start fudging the older jobs (or downright eliminating them) because you've moved on or were embarrassed you worked there.

Yeah. And try to hide it! Those URLs were programmed to redirect to BuzzFeed’s homepage, whereas deleted content normally returns a 404 error message.

And they’ve really opened themselves up to a (fairly plausible) scenario in which some future version of BuzzFeed’s editorial standards suddenly render today’s BuzzFeed content as “bad” and thus flagged for deletion. What on BuzzFeed.com would never, at some point in the future, be deleted because it failed to meet updated standards?

A huge portion of their "articles" are just poorly cribbed from reddit.

This is not true. Not a “huge” proportion. Some, but not a huge amount.

Here is my "listicle" of media properties that have broken my heart:

    1. Mad Magazine
    2. National Lampoon
    3. Sports Illustrated
    4. Spy
    5. The New Yorker
    6. Wired
    7. LiveJournal
    8. Encyclopedia Drammatica

Notice Buzzfeed is not on the list. Gawker may be soon.

Hey! Assholes! All publications have editorial standards, whether they be high, low or otherwise. Enough with the ridiculous straw-man accusations of hypocrisy because Gawker happened to observe that another publication revised its standards and how that revision may have taken place. Gawker wasn't really even making a particular value judgment about the standards to begin with. I don't know how you do it, J.K.; you're a freaking oak for dealing with these people.

What Buzzfeed article/list isn't completely ripped off? They're notorious for infuriating everyone and anyone trying to make it on the internet for their brazen and constant lifting. Delete all of it.
