    I'd guess it's a copyright thing? It seemed like it was only a matter of time before they got the shit sued out of them. I've worked as a photo editor at news sites, and their policy for photos was definitely NOT "just put a tiny little link below the picture and then you can use any picture you want."

    Copyright law with photos is pretty strict Seems like Buzzfeed knows something - maybe a lawsuit — is coming down the pike and they're trying to clean up their act fast.

      Perhaps! It’s odd that they didn’t place a notice on the relevant posts, though. Now they just redirect to BuzzFeed.com—I suppose to make use of residual traffic.

      If they placed a notice then they'd be admitting they did something illegal. Now they're just saying "it doesn't meet editorial guidelines" which keeps it nice and vague in case of a lawsuit.

          Yes. I had a class in journalism school that was supposed to be about feature writing. Our first assignment was to write a "listicle," including reading an Esquire article about the 20 ways to write a listicle. I dropped the class. Since when is does feature writing include listicles???
