Only marriages where your employer deems your spouse to be attractive will be held up as legal.

They don't want the salary they're so generously giving to the employee to go towards a wedding to some uggo loser. That would infringe on their right to object to the scrub lifestyle.

Yeah, you joke, but just wait. There's no telling how far this SCOTUS will go. They've proven they can't be trusted.

What is the argument that an AG or State can make, that is anti-gay marriage, that doesn't involve religion?

For them, they claim it's because people voted for some amendment and therefore want the ban, but...it doesn't matter is 95% of people voted for it. You can't vote in an unconstitutional law.

That's exactly why every single judge thus far as ruled that it's unconstitutional to discriminate based on sexual orientation. I would be utterly shocked if the US Supreme Court didn't say the same thing if they accept the case.

I held that belief until the Hobby Lobby ruling :/

As I understand it, if SCOTUS refuses to take it, which may very well happen, then game over for the defenders of the sanctity of holy matrimony. Is that right?

No another state will just push their case forward and try to get a writ for it. This doesn't end until SCOTUS ends it I think.

Well, sort of. If SCOTUS declines the case, the stay will end and the Tenth Circuit decision will stand for now — which means it will be controlling law in all the states within that circuit (Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming). Courts in states that fall within other circuits are supposed to consider the decision, but are not bound to follow it. But the Supreme Court could always take the issue up later, once another circuit court has ruled one way or another.

God, I can't wait to see the looks on their faces. Can't wait to see the sting. The forces of regressive darkness have a stranglehold on our national politics, but sometimes, freedom prevails.

See, I have to wonder if these people aren't double agents. Why would you want to get this to the Supreme Court? I mean, they've already ruled that the Federal Government is not constitutionally allowed to discriminate against gays when it comes to marriage when they overturned part of DOMA. The only reason they didn't overturn the state's portion of DOMA is that wasn't really in the scope of their decision, from what I understand. So...isn't it pretty much a foregone conclusion that the Supreme Court would just say states can't discriminate either? It seems like these people would know that, so...doesn't it seem like they're pushing it so that the Supreme Court can just finally rule on this?

DOMA was overturned, shouldn't that apply to any of the individual state laws also?
