    Rob Ford has addiction problems. Are we thus surprised that he is acting that way in rehab?

    That being said, I firmly hope someone else is elected in the mayoral election in October, so don't confuse my empathy for him as a person with support for him politically. I'm just exhausted from this media circus.

      Half these fucks are on drugs. Who gives a shit of they're prescribed by doctors or purchased on the street corners...

      I'd rather have a high politician that knows how to legislate, than a sober motherfucker that's as dumb as they come.

      Rob might have addiction problems, but far worse is his entitlement and bullying problem. You can take the drugs away (well, maybe not in his case) but his behavior speaks of harder issues to solve than drug addiction.

    Some addicts are high-functioning folks who can hold a responsible job and perform well even while they're fucking up their own bodies with alcohol or other drugs. Rob Ford clearly isn't one of those people. Hell, even sober, he's never been any prize.

    But what is it in the North American psyche that causes people to vote train wrecks into office? I thought it was more of a U.S. thing, but clearly Canadians aren't immune to it either. Do some people vote for the Rob Fords of the world because they're entertained by other people's self-destruction? Or is it a buzzword bingo thing, like the Texans who will keep voting for a stupid troll like Louie Gohmert as long as he rails loudly enough against "liberals"?

      The latter.

      Toronto certainly has some mismanagement issues in the past, but the bulk of Ford Nation is people opposed to people of color living the high life on their tax dime. Facts be damned, of course, because it's the same "we're not against X, we're against high taxes" anti-X the GOP practices in the US.

        Clearly he thought he was at a rehab facility run by "cool parents" who would've just said "Hey. If you're going to smoke crack we'd rather you be doing it here than someplace where it could be dangerous."
